So stuck! Need lots of opinions please!

I am so completely stuck and cannot decide on one of these names. I need true opinions please! (I will not be offended at bluntness!)

Are any of these good or any you find horrible? [name]Do[/name] any negative nicknames come to mind? Thank you!!

[name]Calvin[/name]
Cygnus ([name]Sig[/name]-nus)
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Caius[/name] ([name]Kye[/name]-us)
[name]Gaius[/name] (guy-us)
[name]Leif[/name] (leaf or layf)

I’m not crazy about Cygnus (out loud it sounds like sickness, at least with my accent), but the rest are quirky and cute. I particularly like [name]Caius[/name] and [name]Leif[/name]. Very bohemian chic.

My favorite is [name]Calvin[/name] by far! [name]Leif[/name] is nice too, as is [name]Caius[/name] (love the nn [name]Cai[/name]/[name]Kai[/name]). TBH [name]Otto[/name] sounds like a dog’s name and I just don’t like the sound of the others.

My favorite is [name]Leif[/name]! I love it as a middle name mostly. ex. [name]Cayden[/name] [name]Leif[/name] or maybe even [name]Caius[/name] [name]Leif[/name] [name]Hope[/name] this helps! If you wouldn’t mind…take a look at my latest forum! I could really use some help as well

[name]Calvin[/name], [name]Leif[/name], [name]Gaius[/name], in that order.

[name]Gaius[/name] is a deep, automatic, no-go. First syllable will be ‘gay’ to entire classrooms of giggling boys.

Thank you, thank you for the honest replies! You are helping!

[name]Calvin[/name] - Not my cup of tea. It seems a little too dorky for my tastes. [name]How[/name] about [name]Clive[/name]?
Cygnus ([name]Sig[/name]-nus) - Not sure if I like the sound of it. [name]Cyrus[/name] maybe?
[name]Otto[/name] - A good name, still reminds me of the school bus driver from the Simpsons though.
[name]Caius[/name] ([name]Kye[/name]-us) - Probably my second favorite on your list.
[name]Gaius[/name] (guy-us) - I like it, but too much teasing potential.
[name]Leif[/name] (leaf or layf) - My favorite on your list. I really like it.

I love the sound and look of [name]Calvin[/name], but it means “baldness.” That is my one hangup! It’s still my favorite off of your list. Good luck!

This exactly. This list looks like part of my husband’s list for our son – it was full of very [name]Roman[/name] names, and I nixed [name]Gaius[/name] right off the bat. He couldn’t even really suggest it with a straight face. I do love [name]Caius[/name] and [name]Otto[/name]. I agree with pp that [name]Caius[/name] [name]Leif[/name] is very very handsome!!! I also love [name]Calvin[/name], but I didn’t know it meant baldness!? Why would there be a name that means baldness? Hmmm … might be crossing that one off.

[name]Otto[/name]: Very cute, I like this
Sygnus: I hear “sickness”
Guyas: I really don’t like this one…sounds made up…nickname guy is awful
[name]Calvin[/name]: I really like this one, just not the meaning…
[name]Caius[/name]: Much better than Guyas in my opinion; different, [name]Cai[/name] as a nickname is great too!

I like [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Otto[/name]

[name]Calvin[/name] - Reminds me of Klein.
Cygnus ([name]Sig[/name]-nus) - NO. Sounds like sickness.
[name]Otto[/name] - [name]German[/name] classic. Strong and handsome.
[name]Caius[/name] ([name]Kye[/name]-us) - no too bad. like the nn. [name]Kai[/name]. There may be pronunciation problems.
[name]Gaius[/name] (guy-us) - NO. Sounds like gay.
[name]Leif[/name] (leaf or layf) - Means nice/lion in my language. The name is strong and handsome. The simpler/trendier version is [name]Levi[/name].

[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Caius[/name]
[name]Gaius[/name]
Cygnus

I like [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Caius[/name] and [name]Leif[/name] best, followed by [name]Otto[/name]. The others have a ‘yucky’ sound to them [name]IMO[/name].
What about [name]Egan[/name] or [name]Ewan[/name]?

Of these names, I like [name]Otto[/name], [name]Leif[/name], and [name]Calvin[/name] the best. My problem with [name]Gaius[/name] is simply that people may not understand how it should be pronounced and they may pronounce it ‘[name]Gay[/name]-us,’ which does not carry the best connotation, as much as I hate to admit that. I like [name]Caius[/name] fine, but something to consider is that it was a name used in Twilight so I don’t personally find it usable right now because it seems as though you’re “jumping on the bandwagon.” Lastly, Cygnus does kind of sound like sickness when said quickly and it seems like a name that kids could make fun of easily, so I would recommend a name similar to it.

[name]Hope[/name] that’s helpful! And good luck with your little guy

Thanks for the heads up about the [name]Caius[/name]-Twilight connection. I have not read the books or seen the movies so I didn’t realize that! It pretty much takes it out of the running for us.

[name]Caius[/name] is a minor enough character in Twilight, that I doubt people will make that connection. I wouldn’t worry about that. “jumping on the bandwagon” would be naming your kid [name]Bella[/name] or [name]Cullen[/name] or something.

I absolutely agree. I would be so sad to see this name not get used just because it was in those books. There are tons of names in those books. Are people really going to stay away from ALL of them? Besides, Twilight is done. No one will remember it in a few years and even if they do, they won’t remember any names other than [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Bella[/name].

Cygnus definitely comes off as sickness to me. I can already imagine the taunts of “gay-us” that [name]Gaius[/name] would get as well. I can also see [name]Leif[/name] getting teased, but not to the same level as [name]Gaius[/name] or Cygnus.

I would drop [name]Gaius[/name] and Cygnus and focus on [name]Caius[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name] (and [name]Leif[/name] as well, though it’s not my favorite)

I see what you’re saying. If it’s not a major character it probably wouldn’t matter much. Since I’m not familiar with the characters I just figured it was a big enough name in the series to be odd to use. Thanks for clarifying!
