This is our first pregnancy. We have the boy names narrowed down to [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], but the girl names have been so hard! We want something unique but not so weird the kid will get teased.
Thoughts/ opinions? We have never been so undecided in our lives!!
[name]Matisse[/name] ([name]Matty[/name]) - NMS but see the appeal
[name]Eden[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - okay
[name]Huxley[/name] (mn) - sounds to masculine… also makes me think of hussler!
[name]Bardot[/name] (mn) - nice as a mn
[name]Marlo[/name] - meh, doesn’t do anything for me
[name]Harper[/name] - NMS
[name]Audrey[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! I think this name is under appreciated!
[name]Madeline[/name] - cute!
Margeaux - prefer [name]Margot[/name] spelling… good mix of unique and useable
[name]Rosalie[/name] - nope
[name]Penelope[/name] - cute… I really like [name]Penny[/name] as a nn
[name]Mae[/name] - feels incomplete
[name]Marguerite[/name] ([name]Margo[/name]) - I like this a lot (see Margeaux)
[name]Nico[/name] - too masculine
[name]Odette[/name] - cute in French. not sure how well it would do in an English speaking area (don’t know where you live…?)
[name]Etienne[/name] - no! I hope this stays a boys name!
[name]Parker[/name] - again, boy name
[name]Leah[/name] - pretty, but not quite as unique as I think you would like.
[name]Eveline[/name] ([name]Eve[/name], [name]Evie[/name]) - very pretty but beware of the common nn. and how would you pronounce? Eh-vuh-line or eh-vuh-lynn? I prefer eh-vuh-lynn…
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] - nice flow, sounds very French
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Huxley[/name] - not a fan
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Mea[/name] - no
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Marie[/name] - no
[name]Hope[/name] this helps… I think you have some really nice names here that I can appreaciate even though our styles are not very similar! I do love both of your boy options… can’t go wrong with either (i do prefer [name]Samuel[/name] though - for what that’s worth!)
…We have the boy names narrowed down to [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], but the girl names have been so hard! We want something unique but not so weird the kid will get teased. --I adore the name [name]Miles[/name]. I was a nanny to a baby [name]Miles[/name] a few years ago, and we always called him “Mr. [name]Miles[/name]” or “Mister [name]Miles[/name] Smiles”. So fun, and completely adorable. I think the mn [name]Liam[/name] goes so well with it: [name]Miles[/name] [name]Liam[/name].
Thoughts/ opinions? We have never been so undecided in our lives!!
[name]Matisse[/name] ([name]Matty[/name]) --I really like this name on a girl, except the nn ‘[name]Matty[/name]’ with the ‘y’ makes it seem more masculine to me (My brother’s name is [name]Matthew[/name]…). I think the nn would fit better spelled ‘[name]Mattie[/name]’ with the letters in the full name as well.
[name]Eden[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) – My top girl name, and top girl nn! I also like ‘[name]Edie[/name]’ as a stand-alone name.
[name]Huxley[/name] (mn) – I dig this for a middle!
[name]Bardot[/name] (mn) – It seems like the name ‘[name]Bridget[/name]’ in some form should come before this one…
[name]Marlo[/name] – I like it spelled [name]Marlowe[/name]/[name]Marlow[/name] better, but I still like it.
[name]Harper[/name] – Recently, I have really been liking this name on/for a girl. I might go with it as a mn, however.
[name]Audrey[/name] – I do love [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn (haha), and this name has class and a certain timelessness that goes with it. A solid choice, in my opinion!
[name]Madeline[/name] – I prefer the spelling ‘[name]Madeleine[/name]’. The name [name]Madeline[/name] is usually quite common (depending upon where you live, et al), so there is that to think about…
Margeaux – [name]Love[/name] this! Also, my favorite spelling of the name.
[name]Rosalie[/name] – Not my style, personally…
[name]Penelope[/name]–Great name with the very cute nn of ‘[name]Penny[/name]’.
[name]Mae[/name] – I also adore this name. I like [name]Maeve[/name] as well with the nn [name]Mae[/name].
[name]Marguerite[/name] ([name]Margo[/name]) - I say stick with the Margeaux version!
[name]Nico[/name]–Reminds me of the [name]Velvet[/name] Underground/Warhol Scene in the late 60’s. The famous model [name]Nico[/name] was given that name by the man who brought her to this country–he named her after his homosexual lover. Personally, this sort of taints the name for me!
[name]Odette[/name]–It sounds a lot like she might owe a debt!
[name]Etienne[/name] – Very flowing & pretty. I thought this was primarily a boy’s name, but I guess it’s all the same anymore anyway these days! It does appear feminine to me, however.
[name]Parker[/name]–Honestly, I have viewed this name as being a bit pretentious on a boy; it seems a bit bold on a girl.
[name]Leah[/name] – I have liked this name for a while; however, I prefer the spelling ‘[name]Lia[/name]’.
[name]Matisse[/name] ([name]Matty[/name]) – I’ve never heard of this as a fn, I just think of the artist and for some reason when looking at it alone I still think of it as a boys name
[name]Eden[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) – Not bad, and I like the nn [name]Edie[/name]
[name]Huxley[/name] (mn) – I love this, but only for boys
[name]Bardot[/name] (mn) – I like how this is pn, but not how its spelled
[name]Marlo[/name] – Okay, though I prefer [name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] – Too popular for my taste
[name]Audrey[/name] – Never been a fan of this name
[name]Madeline[/name] – If you’re pn this ‘mad-ah-line’, I like it. If you’re pn it ‘Mad-ah-lynn’ I still like it, but not as much.
Margeaux – Pretty
[name]Rosalie[/name] – I like it, though I like some of the other [name]Rose[/name] names better, such as [name]Rosemary[/name] and [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] – Big fan
[name]Mae[/name] – Seems incomplete to me
[name]Marguerite[/name] ([name]Margo[/name]) – [name]Love[/name] this
[name]Nico[/name] – See [name]Huxley[/name]
[name]Odette[/name] – This name seems very accessible but underused, I have quite a big crush on it
[name]Etienne[/name] – See [name]Huxley[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] – seems too dated to me
[name]Leah[/name] – see [name]Parker[/name]
[name]Eveline[/name] ([name]Eve[/name], [name]Evie[/name]) – Not bad, not my favourite, but its okay
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] – this is pretty good, and I don’t mind [name]Bardot[/name] in the middle at all
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Huxley[/name] – still struggling with [name]Huxley[/name] for a girl
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Mea[/name] – Not a fan
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Marie[/name] – Not a fan
So, from your list, I like: [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Odette[/name] & [name]Marguerite[/name] the best, with [name]Odette[/name] as the front runner.
Good luck!
[name]Matisse[/name] ([name]Matty[/name]) – I kinda like it, but it’s kinda surnamey and masculine. Maybe as a middle name.
[name]Eden[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) – Cute.
[name]Huxley[/name] (mn) – I like this a lot (cause I love [name]Aldous[/name] [name]Huxley[/name]), but would prefer it as a mn for a boy.
[name]Bardot[/name] (mn) – [name]Don[/name]'t like it, I prefer [name]Margot[/name] very strongly!
[name]Marlo[/name] – Prefer [name]Marlow[/name] and I think it is cute — though, I still like [name]Margot[/name] better. =p
[name]Harper[/name] – Not my favorite. It’s super popular and it makes me think of harpies and harping (nagging) on someone.
[name]Audrey[/name] – [name]Love[/name] it, probably my favorite for you from this list. Would be great with a brother [name]Miles[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name].
[name]Madeline[/name] – Like it but I’m a bit bored with it.
Margeaux – Prefer [name]Margot[/name] and I love it!
[name]Rosalie[/name] – Very cute, maybe a bit toooo cute.
[name]Penelope[/name] – Another one of my favorites, I adore this name.
[name]Mae[/name] – [name]Love[/name] it but prefer it as a mn or a nn.
[name]Odette[/name] – It’s ok, but I think it would pair oddly with [name]Miles[/name] or [name]Sam[/name] as a brother later on.
[name]Etienne[/name] – This is a boys name!!
[name]Parker[/name] – [name]Don[/name]'t like it.
[name]Leah[/name] – Very sweet and pretty but swamped with spelling and pronunciation issues for such a simple name.
[name]Eveline[/name] ([name]Eve[/name], [name]Evie[/name]) – Prefer [name]Evelyn[/name], and I love the nn [name]Evie[/name].
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] – It’s ok, but not my favorite combination.
[name]Don[/name]'t like any of these:
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Huxley[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Mea[/name]
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
I see that you like to pair a feminine name with a masculine/surname name. I prefer two feminine names (or a feminine name and a unisex name) and don’t really care for surname names… but I tried to pair a few from your list that I thought sounded nice, though of course it will really depend on your surname as well.
A few combos from your list:
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Parker[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Huxley[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Matisse[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Marlow[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Odette[/name]
[name]Eveline[/name] [name]Harper[/name]
[name]Matisse[/name] ([name]Matty[/name]) - because my only association is with the artist, it seems masculine to me. If you do use it for a girl, I agree with pp to spell the nn [name]Mattie[/name].
[name]Eden[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - nms although I know a lot of people who like it. nn [name]Edie[/name] is cute
[name]Huxley[/name] (mn) - not a very appealing sound imo
[name]Bardot[/name] (mn) - I can see the appeal to this one, good middle
[name]Marlo[/name] - I love this name! Can’t do [name]Marlo[/name] [name]Bardot[/name], but others on your list would be good middles
[name]Harper[/name] - ok but not very unusual. I don’t like the lack of nn personally
[name]Audrey[/name] - lovely!
[name]Madeline[/name] - beautiful although common
Margeaux - to get the hard ‘g’ sound in French it is [name]Margaux[/name], no e. I love the name but would probably go with [name]Margot[/name], maybe [name]Margo[/name].
[name]Rosalie[/name] - beautiful
[name]Penelope[/name] - fun and unusual with plenty of good nn options - [name]Penn[/name], [name]Penny[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], etc
[name]Mae[/name] - ok. I probably wouldn’t have both a [name]Mae[/name] and a [name]Miles[/name] or a [name]Sam[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] if future siblings are taken into consideration. Maybe a good middle
[name]Etienne[/name] - is French version of [name]Stephen[/name] so although it looks feminine to Americans or English speakers, it’s really just not
[name]Parker[/name] - ok but I prefer more girly unisex names if that makes any sense ([name]Marlo[/name], [name]Harper[/name], etc seem more feminine for some reason)
[name]Leah[/name] - ok but not too interesting
[name]Eveline[/name] ([name]Eve[/name], [name]Evie[/name])- love but prefer [name]Evelyn[/name] to avoid prn questions
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] - a little overly French unless that’s what you’re going for!
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Huxley[/name] - not a good combo I don’t think.
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Mea[/name] - no
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Marie[/name] - definitely no
