So we both get our say. But does it work? ( Sorry a tad long)

So a lot of you have already kindly commented on my whole ‘I really love this name and want to use it’ saga. The name being Lawrence.

So partner isn’t too in love with Lawrence but couldn’t really give a significant reason for his dislike. Lawrence is a name I have loved forever and despite coming up with alternatives that we both liked ( but neither one of us loved) I just found myself gravitating back towards Lawrence.

Partner realises that he did have more sway with our youngest in terms of his name and he also appreciates how much I really would like to use the name Lawrence for a third baby.
He is starting to warm up to the name a lot more. We discussed the option of him using whatever middle name he wanted for a third potential boy and I think this has allowed him to accept Lawrence more because he has come up with a middle he really likes.

Anyway… To cut a long story short. He wishes to use Bellamy as a middle name.
The name Bellamy is actually significant to both of us due to us being life long, loyal fans of Matt Bellamy ( Muse) I won’t go into detail of why Muse and Matt Bellamy has been significant to us, there are a number of reasons.
Whilst I don’t mind Bellamy. And I think it is only fair that we use Bellamy, in the same way that I get to use Lawrence. I wanted to share why I am a bit put off with the name combo and hopefully I’ll get some positive feedback.

Firstly, I think Lawrence Bellamy Màckenzie sounds very ‘surnamey’. I particularly want to use Lawrence over Laurence. And I am acutely aware that Lawrence is perhaps used more as a surname rather than first name. So already we have a bit of a surname vibe going on. It is the same with Bellamy, where here in the UK. It is arguably heard more as a surname, rather than a first/middle name.
With my surname ( which I obviously can’t change) it just all sounds surnamey to me.

I would have gone for something like Jude or Arlo. Something short and classic.

So in conclusion, what do we think of Lawrence Bellamy? Handsome friend from the land of the laurels lol?
Thanks

Use it. It’s a compromise, & it works well. You have to do this sort of thing in life. I would personally just be happy that I got my favorite name in the first slot.

I really like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It’s a handsome name and I don’t find it overly surnamey at all, not like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], etc. and I think that is because most boys names that we consider ‘common’ first names are also common surnames (e.g [name_u]Scott[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Bennett[/name_u], [name_u]Bradley[/name_u], etc.) and maybe it is different in your area but I have never met a [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] family. It’s a lovely choice, is meaningful to you, and a great compromise.

[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is a great name, and a great compromise. I think it’s very sweet that you both have chosen part of his name. It sounds like a name that can grow with your boy, yet comes with plenty of nicknames he can pick from if he so chooses.

I think it sounds great! His choice could be so much worse :scream::joy:

I don’t think it sounds too surnamey, it sounds very handsome to me, and [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] goes so well with [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. Plus, most often they will go by last name and first name, and [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] sounds very nice with your surname. All in all a wonderful name, and I’m sure you’ll fall even more in love with it when it belongs to your child

I think [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] works! Definitely. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the surname, I don’t think it sounds too surname-y altogether.

It’s wonderful that you were able to compromise, and I think it’s a great combo!

I don’t think of [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] as a surname. To me it’s like a “first name as surname” (like [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Richard[/name_m] etc.) not vice versa. I think [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is handsome! I like the balance of solid classic & fresh modern.

Like others have said, I don’t think [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] sounds like a surname. [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] sounds good, I like it. And I share your love for [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] and [name_f]Muse[/name_f], I think I can say that in some weird way they saved my life when I was a teenager  So I can only approve

@tfzolghadr I know I’m not too keen on the sing-song middle/surname either but I think it can be overlooked. At least it can for me
@nymphnaps thank you!
@Rosebeth goodness me too, me too :raised_hands:. We actually only live 30 mins away from where they are from, here in the UK. Such a prolific band.
