Sofia alternatives

I love the name [name]Sofia[/name] but do not want to give my baby a name that is extremely popular. We have a lot of criteria for a name. First our children will all have 3 names (family tradition). Our first daughter has 2 first names and a middle name. Her first names start with the same letter. All of our daughters will have a name that means love because my first name means love and because the verse in first Corinthians 13 that my name comes from reads “and now faith, hope, and charity, but the greatest of these is charity.” I always thought I’d feel sorry for faith and hope since the greatest was charity.
I love the name [name]Simone[/name] which means listens to God. So I am looking for a combination where the first 2 names start with the same letter and one of the 3 names means love. Thanks for reading I know this sounds like a name game but it truly is the pattern we use.

I like [name]Samantha[/name] [name]Simone[/name] or maybe [name]Sanchia[/name] [name]Simone[/name].
For names meaning love how about:
[name]Aiko[/name]
Akabi
[name]Anabel[/name]
[name]Carita[/name]
[name]Cerys[/name]
[name]Delpha[/name]
[name]Ife[/name]
[name]Karenza[/name]

I really like [name]Sanchia[/name] [name]Simone[/name] [name]Cerys[/name] or [name]Sanchia[/name] [name]Simone[/name] [name]Karenza[/name].

[name]Sanchia[/name] isn’t one we had thought of, thanks. I like the Italian variation of [name]Sancia[/name] even better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Friends of mine went with [name]Zosha[/name] or Zoscia (both pronounced the same). It’s the Polish version of [name]Sofia[/name]. I think it is very pretty.

Okay, I hope I can do this right!

[name]Adora[/name] - “beloved, adored”
[name]Cerys[/name] - “love” [also [name]Carys[/name]]
[name]Davina[/name] - “beloved”
[name]Esme[/name] - “beloved”
[name]Freya[/name] - [name]Goddess[/name] of [name]Love[/name] and Fertility
[name]Kalila[/name] - “beloved”
[name]Kerensa[/name] - “love” [also [name]Karenza[/name]]
[name]Milena[/name] - “love, warmth, grace”
[name]Priya[/name] - “beloved”
[name]Suki[/name] - “loved one”

And then one of the names should be [name]Simone[/name], right? Okay.

[name]Adora[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Davina[/name] [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Milena[/name] [name]Sari[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Milena[/name] [name]Suki[/name] [name]Simone[/name]

Amora and [name]Kerensa[/name] are my two favorite love names. I have a cousin named [name]Kerensa[/name]. I think it’s gorgeous!

I feel completely blessed by the feedback from everyone and the time you invested. Thanks so much. I am impressed with many of the combinations you came up with. [name]Both[/name] my husband and I really enjoyed the [name]Freya[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] option and I love the idea of using [name]Kerenza[/name]/[name]Kerensa[/name]. I like the exotic flair of [name]Kerensa[/name]. I usually stick to vintage. We used [name]EsMe[/name] for our first born. My husband don’t think [name]Imogen[/name] is the right name for us, we read The Best [name]Christmas[/name] Pageant [name]Ever[/name] each [name]Christmas[/name] and the main character is [name]Imogen[/name] Herdman and not the nicest kid.

[name]Glad[/name] you enjoyed those. Is [name]Esme[/name] your only child thus far, or do you have others? I think [name]Freya[/name] is really gorgeous with [name]Esme[/name], and I’m really pleased [name]Freya[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Simone[/name] was one you and your husband liked. [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Kerensa[/name] are an interesting pairing, but I think it could work, for sure. I like [name]Kerensa[/name] for the spunky [name]Keri[/name] nickname and the more demure [name]Ren[/name] nickname - I adore [name]Wren[/name], so [name]Ren[/name] is nearly as good! What is your [name]Esme[/name]'s middle name? [name]Kerensa[/name] [name]Katharine[/name] or something more vintage might work if that’s more your style…

Here are a few more thoughts for [name]Esme[/name]'s sister:

[name]Abrielle[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Brie[/name]”
[name]Anais[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Ana[/name]”
[name]Arianne[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Ari[/name]”
[name]Aveline[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Ava[/name]”
[name]Delphine[/name] [name]Davina[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Del[/name]”
[name]Freya[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Margaux[/name] [name]Milena[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Maggie[/name]”
[name]Mariette[/name] [name]Milena[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Mari[/name]”
[name]Pauline[/name] [name]Priya[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Lina[/name]”

[name]Josephine[/name] hits some of the same notes of [name]Sophia[/name] for me, and nn [name]Josie[/name] plays to [name]Sophie[/name], although I’m having a bit of a hard time working it into your pattern. I do like that name with [name]Esme[/name] though! Are you generally interested in a French name? It seems that way with [name]Simone[/name], though you’ve seemed to like a range of names in your responses. In general I’ve put names meaning “love” in 2nd position so you can try with other names.

Other names capturing an element of [name]Sophia[/name] for me: anything with a long o: [name]Dorothea[/name], [name]Johanna[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Idonie[/name], [name]Violet[/name].

Best wishes!

Some thoughts on the list that follows:
[name]Aimee[/name]: I know [name]Aimee[/name] is close to [name]Esme[/name], but maybe works in 2nd? Could use [name]Amoret/name or Amor(a) or [name]Amanda[/name] or [name]Amabel[/name] otherwise.
[name]Cara[/name]: I’ve also seen Caramia: My beloved. A little bit “invented”, but lovely.
[name]Corinne[/name]: means maiden: Maiden-[name]Love[/name]-Listens-to-God, [name]Beloved[/name] girl who listens to God? : D). Could use [name]Corinna[/name] too.
[name]Dorothea[/name]: could be [name]Dorothee[/name] or [name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Darla[/name]: from English Darling
[name]Davina[/name]: Could be [name]Davida[/name] or Davinia
[name]Felice[/name]: [name]Happy[/name] love! Could be [name]Felicia[/name] too.
[name]Filomena[/name]: with [name]Freya[/name], gives you a double-love meaning! [name]Freya[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] is probably nicer, to be fair : D.
[name]Idonie[/name]: French form of Latin [name]Idonea[/name] from Norse Idunn, “again to love”.
[name]Isabelle[/name]: Probably too popular, but maybe OK in second position?
Jedida: One website says Jedida was the mother of Biblical [name]King[/name] [name]Josiah[/name], and that the name means beloved in Hebrew. It’s also spelled Jedidah, and with a Y instead of a J.
[name]Juliette[/name]: or [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Nazneen[/name]: is Farsi and Nazanin is a more ancient Persian version, I think.
[name]Noemie[/name]: or [name]Noemi[/name], or [name]Naomi[/name]. [name]Noemi/name is French.
[name]Sonia[/name]: a [name]Sophia[/name] variant/relative. Since it means “knowledge” knowledge-listen-to-God-love: [name]Beloved[/name] knowledge comes from listening to God?
[name]Therese[/name]: [name]Love[/name] the French Ter-EZZ, with the long e I’d prefer [name]Theresa[/name]/[name]Teresa[/name].
[name]Vidette[/name]: from [name]Davida[/name]/[name]David[/name]. There is also [name]Vina[/name] and [name]Vida[/name].
[name]Vivienne[/name]: Or [name]Vivian[/name].

(first time we’ve heard [name]Vidette[/name])

I do like french names. Our first daughter has a classic name like [name]Eleanor[/name] followed by [name]EsMe[/name]. I also love [name]Josephine[/name] due to [name]Jo[/name] [name]March[/name] in [name]Little[/name] Women but my husband finds this name to masculine (to close to [name]Joseph[/name] for him.) Thanks for the websites too! We have discussed many of these names too. Thanks for the suggestions.

DH, didn’t go for [name]Sancia[/name], He does like [name]Seraphina[/name], but I just am not a fan even though I love the meaning. He found [name]Shoshana[/name] interesting though. I’m not sure yet, I love [name]Sophia[/name] so much that’s it’s hard to think of something else.

So far my favorite love names are probably

[name]Amedee[/name]/[name]Amedea[/name]
[name]Ame[/name]
Amorette
[name]Kalila[/name]
[name]Karensa[/name] (not overly fond of K names in general so this would be the middle name, #3 in the lineup)
[name]Adora[/name] (like [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Adora[/name], [name]Aveline[/name] was on our list, but my sis used [name]Evelyn[/name], too close?) [name]Arabelle[/name]/a [name]Adora[/name] nn. [name]Ari[/name] also in the “like” category.
Also like [name]Mariette[/name] [name]Milena[/name] (but don’t want to use any names derived from [name]Mary[/name] because it means bitter, how sad to have you name mean bitter love :frowning: ) But love the sound!

Since he likes [name]Seraphina[/name], is [name]Josefina[/name] right at all? Still too close to [name]Joseph[/name] for him : D?

I love the name [name]Shoshana[/name], however if you weren’t already aware, in my experience it is very popular as a Jewish heritage name / the kind of name that Jewish people pick as their Hebrew name, and some internet searching seems to confirm that (Appellation Mountain has a post on exactly this topic, spelled Shoshanna). So unless that is part of your heritage (which your comment about faith, hope, and love makes me doubt, but I never want to assume), you should be sure you’re OK with that thought as you consider that name further. [name]Susannah[/name] is a relative, and maybe a little close to [name]Sophia[/name]? [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Simone[/name] is a lovely combo.

If it’s just the look of the K that bothers you, to me [name]Kalila[/name] and [name]Karensa[/name] are so rare in English that spelling them Calila or Carensa doesn’t ring huge spelling bells (disregard if it does to you : D). Especially in the third position.

[name]Mary[/name]: it has two potential etymologies. One is the Hebrew one, which is associated with [name]Mara[/name]/[name]Mariam[/name]/[name]Miriam[/name], and does mean bitter. The other is Latin, which means “sea,” like all those words maritime, marina, etc. Sea of [name]Love[/name], of course, is pretty.

[name]Milena[/name]: here on NB recently someone posted about how they loved this for getting them to nn [name]Mila[/name], but someone responded about the medical condition melena (a VERY unfortunate connection). Of course, it’s not the same word, and melena’s not widely known, but it’s a definite consideration. I actually think the rhythm of [name]Mariette[/name] [name]Mila[/name] is nicer than that of [name]Mariette[/name] [name]Milena[/name].

[name]Aveline[/name]/[name]Evelyn[/name] - how close would you pronounce them? And how often would they see each other? [name]How[/name] would your sister feel? [name]How[/name] do you feel? They do ring close to me, although I think it’s not undoable if those four factors line up right. I think with you being interested in enough other names, it’s probably easy enough not to use it though.

Really like [name]Arabelle[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name]!

All best!

I’m pronouncing [name]Aveline[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] completely differently, honestly. For me, [name]Aveline[/name] is [AHV-eh-LEEN], whereas [name]Evelyn[/name] is [EHV-eh-lin]. Is [name]Evelyn[/name] shortened to [name]Evie[/name] or something? [name]Aveline[/name] could always be [name]Ava[/name], [name]Avie[/name], or [name]Lina[/name]. I think [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Aveline[/name] are just cool together, and [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] is really perky and sophisticated. That being said, [name]Arabelle[/name] [name]Adora[/name] [name]Simone[/name] “[name]Ara[/name]” or “[name]Ari[/name]” or “[name]Belle[/name]” is lovely, too…
