Solemn

[name]How[/name] do you feel about Solemn as a name? [name]One[/name] name on here was described as “solid but solemn”, and I got to thinking how Solemn would sound as a name (but not so much “Solid”). I think it sounds really good for a boy’s name, kinda tough-sounding and similar to [name]Salem[/name], but I want to know what you all think about it.

EDIT: The name is Ephraim. The quote is “solid but NOT solemn”. Also, I didn’t look up the definition until after reading a few replies on here. Sorry about that.

Honestly, I dislike. But, then again, I’m not big on word names.

Solemn is a negative adjective so I don’t like it for a name. It means sad, grave, serious.

I foresee a lifetime of ‘no, not [name]Solomon[/name], just Solem…yes, as in serious. Yes ‘seriously’ my name is Solomn’… etc etc

As a nickname for [name]Solomon[/name] it would be fine - although maybe tough for a serious minded child.

I think that could be a hard name to live with. A serious, quiet kid could wear it more appropriately (but it would be almost like a bad nickname, putting on exclamation point on his personal traits), but it would sound like satire at best on a class-clown type. I’d say it’s probably best to stay away from word names that describe temperament too specifically.

It has a nice enough sound but it feels very dark and forboding to me. I immediately think of graveyards. I don’t like it at all.

Maybe I should have looked it up before posting. Sorry about that.

However, maybe it can be used as the name of a gloomy character for a book…?
