DH and I have been discussing (arguing!) over names. We can’t seem to find “the” name just yet. Bub is our fifth, and was a total surprise. I want to honour my mum this time round, so my thought is her maiden name of Whiley, in the middle. We don’t know gender, just trying to get a list together, as bub is due 30th [name]November[/name]!

Thoughts so far -

[name]Chance[/name] Whiley (DH loves the fact the name incorporates the surprise part of the pregnancy!)
[name]Emmett[/name] Whiley
Brax Whiley (I know it fits the modern/invented category! But I prefer this to [name]Braxton[/name], as it reminds me of braxton hicks)
[name]Grayson[/name] Whiley
Brayton Whiley (Contrary to how it looks, this name is a Scottish form of [name]Brett[/name])

REally like [name]Emmett[/name]. [name]Emmett[/name] Whiley conjures up an image of a bounty hunter or some sort of cowboy in the wild west - brave, rugged, handsome!

Congrats! Out of your options, I like [name]Emmett[/name] Whiley by far the best. I also like [name]Chance[/name] Whiley and the meaning behind it, but I wonder if that will be awkward when he asks you later in his life how you chose his name. It’s not a bad story, but some kids don’t like learning they were not planned – it could go either way. [name]Just[/name] a thought.

I also love pp’s suggestions of [name]Chase[/name] Whiley (same sound as [name]Chance[/name] minus possible negative repercussions), [name]Everett[/name] Whiley, and [name]Cameron[/name] Whiley. And I love your idea to use your mum’s maiden name as the middle – and what a great name it is!

My favorites are [name]Chance[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name].
I prefer the sound of [name]Chance[/name] Whiley, because Whiley makes me think of wildness and even wilyness, fox-like smarts and tricksterness. [name]Chance[/name] is such a beautiful element of existence - we’re not in control, and things that happen by chance often enrich our lives in ways that we can’t predict. I feel like [name]Chance[/name] Whiley is the name of someone sharp and resourceful, someone who has an awareness of things greater than himself, and perhaps someone who has wild adventures.
[name]Emmett[/name] I like for its symmetry and groundedness. And for [name]Emmett[/name] Otter, the [name]Jim[/name] Henson character. :slight_smile:
