Some new-ish ones!

Boy, even here, the boys forum is slower than molasses. Two parter

I was thinking of a few newer or different names than are floating around my top 10 right now, would you be so kind as to review them?

[name]Anselm[/name] - blogged him yesterday but I want some opinions from those that havenā€™t seen it.

The others are: [name]Casimir[/name], [name]Harvey[/name], [name]Bruce[/name] (His great grandpop, I keep toying with him) & [name]Clarence[/name] (nn [name]Clancy[/name]).

Thanks a million, guys!

[name]Anselm[/name] : This is a really cool name, [name]Lola[/name]. What would his nickname be?

[name]Casimir[/name]: I immediately thought I was reading the word ā€œcashmere,ā€ so Iā€™d use [name]Casimir[/name] as a middle name. Itā€™s different, but so handsome.

[name]Harvey[/name]: I know itā€™s popular in the UK, but it just seems so nicknamey to me.

[name]Bruce[/name]: Iā€™m not a fan of [name]Bruce[/name], but think it would be great if you honored your loved one.

[name]Clarence[/name]/[name]Clancy[/name]: While [name]Clarence[/name] seems too nerdy for me, I really, really like [name]Clancy[/name]! I actually grew up with a [name]Clancy[/name] (he would have killed anyone who called him [name]Clarence[/name]), who was handsome and quite athletic. Iā€™m really torn on this one, as I love [name]Clancy[/name] as much as I dislike [name]Clarence[/name]. Hmmmā€¦

Is [name]Alfred[/name]/[name]Alfie[/name] on your list?

[name]Anselm[/name] : I love this name, but I canā€™t think of a great nickname. It would be tempting to call him Ants, especially when he becomes a teenager. He would laugh!

[name]Casimir[/name]: This is lots of fun! His nickname could be Caz like the Casbah.

[name]Harvey[/name]: I love this excrutiatingly. I had a great uncle with this cute and happy name, and he was so nice. He worked for a chocolate company. That made me really love him!

[name]Bruce[/name]: This was going to be my husbandā€™s name but then his momā€™s really good friend-sort-of-relative named her son [name]Bruce[/name]. His mom was mad! I think [name]Bruce[/name] would make a great honoring middle.

[name]Clarence[/name]/[name]Clancy[/name]: Iā€™m going to really date myself here and admit that I used to love watching ā€œ[name]Clarence[/name] the [name]Cross[/name]-Eyed [name]Lion[/name]ā€ on T.V. So I love [name]Clarence[/name]. [name]Clancy[/name] is too cute!

Is [name]Alfred[/name]/[name]Alfie[/name] on your list? No long vowel in [name]Alfred[/name]. Only short vowels.

[name]Love[/name] your ideas, [name]Lola[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Yuri[/name]? Thatā€™s fun to say. [name]How[/name] about [name]Dimitri[/name]? When is [name]Irving[/name] going to come back in style? The ā€œingā€ at the end reminds me of pudding. I love pudding. Yes, [name]Irving[/name] nn [name]Irv[/name] needs to be on the hotlist!

Thanks [name]Jill[/name], [name]Susan[/name]!

[name]Anselm[/name] is one I donā€™t think Iā€™d nickname. Rather like [name]Leo[/name], who gets things like Punkin, Sweetie or [name]Honey[/name]. So would [name]Anselm[/name]. Depoending on his middles (which I havenā€™t even come close to deciding on) I may end up with a initial kid (rather like the [name]AB[/name] I had for [name]Alasdair[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]George[/name]). Ans would be the occasional shortening, not quite ants. I would think, anyway.

Caz, exactly [name]Susan[/name]! Or Miro! [name]Jill[/name], I get a lot of cashmere thoughts on [name]Casimir[/name]. No big deal there, cashmereā€™s a luxury fabric, isnā€™t it? Iā€™ll think about him in the middle only because he seems quite ethnic with [name]Leo[/name] & [name]Simon[/name] but okay with [name]Josephine[/name].

[name]Harvey[/name] is one thatā€™s been creeping up on me. I toy with him quite often. I have to ask, Jull, what would [name]Harvey[/name] be a nickname for? I donā€™t get the nickname feel from him. I think heā€™s cool with [name]Josephine[/name] and kitschy enough to fit with [name]Leo[/name] & [name]Simon[/name] too.

The Hulk makes me love [name]Bruce[/name] (and [name]Betty[/name] too). Really. Told you Iā€™m weird! And as a bonus for me itā€™s in his family tree. Except for the potential for [name]Brucie[/name] (which is all Cousin [name]Brucie[/name], on the radio, to me). Maybe in the middle, but I like him enough to put up front. Definitely!

[name]Susan[/name], I think youā€™re my age or a touch older! I vaguely recall ā€œ[name]Clarence[/name] the [name]Cross[/name]-Eyed [name]Lion[/name]ā€ but my slightly older cousins know all about it. Me, I think [name]Angel[/name] in ā€œitā€™s a Wonderful Lifeā€ since I see that every year. [name]Clancy[/name] is a perfect nickname for him, brash and rough. A lovely switch from the refined and cultured [name]Clarence[/name].

[name]Alfred[/name]/[name]Alfie[/name] is not on our lists. I dislike [name]Alfie[/name] (not enough to be bothered by anyone elseā€™s use of it but not for me!) And [name]Alfred[/name] just says ā€œBatmanā€™s loyal butlerā€ to me. Heā€™s not a bad image at all, really just not for me. (Hay, maybe a [name]Bruce[/name] of mine will have a best friend named [name]Alfred[/name]? That would be hilarious!
I wonder why I seem to prefer long vowels to short, too. Mine has a mix, youā€™d think that would be what my ear prefers, hmm.

[name]Irving[/name]'s great, [name]Susan[/name] but not for me. I think Heā€™s definitely got ā€œhotlistā€ potential, So clunky and old mannish that heā€™s surprisingly cool again! [name]Yuri[/name] is fantastic and I adore Dmitriy (spelled that way, heā€™s a Great Uncle!) but both sound kind of weird with the [name]Mac[/name] surname. I wish I could use Dmitriy at least!

[name]Anselm[/name] - For me this guy is a 17th century French aristocrat wearing gold brocade and high-heeled shoes. Heā€™s also very handy with a dueling sword, so donā€™t let the powdered wig fool you.

[name]Casimir[/name] - [name]Cosmo[/name]'s better; this oneā€™s too close to cashmere to my ear

[name]Harvey[/name] - Doesnā€™t bother me, but doesnā€™t make me excited either

[name]Bruce[/name] - You know your [name]Charlotte[/name]/harlot thing? I have a permanent association of [name]Bruce[/name] and bruise. Which leads to oozeā€¦

[name]Clarence[/name] (nn [name]Clancy[/name]) - a jolly fun guy. I like him!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Lola[/name]. About [name]Harvey[/name]: I know itā€™s not a nickname, but it just has that feel for me. I guess it reminds me of [name]Alfie[/name], [name]Bobby[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Frankie[/name], [name]Georgie[/name], [name]Mikey[/name], [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Ollie[/name], etcā€¦ Perhaps itā€™s because of the fact that aside from [name]Henry[/name], I really donā€™t associate many ā€œee-soundingā€ endings with ā€œfullā€ names when it comes to boys. I had a relative named [name]Harvey[/name], and when I was a little girl, I remember wondering what [name]Harvey[/name]'s ā€œrealā€ first name was. I was clearly clueless, but I guess [name]Harvey[/name]'s nicknamey vibe never left me!

Thanks, [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Jill[/name]!

[name]Melissa[/name], I swear, you are the only person whoā€™s ever said ā€œIā€™d rather [name]Cosmo[/name] than [name]Casimir[/name]ā€. Which is cool, Theyā€™re both family names for me. I prefer [name]Cosmo[/name] too, I was just thinking of alternatives.
I love your depiction of [name]Anselm[/name]! [name]How[/name] neat. I have a picture of [name]Ken[/name] in 18th century garb (I think he was 25 or so) and yeah, he does rather look like an [name]Anselm[/name]!

I still thoroughly like [name]Bruce[/name], [name]Just[/name] like I canā€™t stop anyone from using [name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Josie[/name] will have one in her Kindergarten class, you watch!) I think Iā€™ll hang onto [name]Bruce[/name] for a bit longer. I think heā€™d be pretty groovinā€™ in a few years time.

Thanks for the thumbsup on [name]Clarence[/name]/[name]Clancy[/name]. Iā€™m quite taken with him again!

[name]Jill[/name], I understand about the nicknamey feel, really I do. Iā€™d thought I might have missed something [name]Harvey[/name] had originally come from! itā€™s okay, youā€™re not alone with his sound feeling nicknamey but Iā€™m really charmed by him and canā€™t seem to shake him completely. So heā€™s staying, at least for now.

I actually like [name]Harvey[/name], and itā€™s one of my favorites of the boysā€™ names youā€™ve been pondering. Iā€™m glad itā€™s staying! Iā€™m sure youā€™ve thought of every name known to man, but Iā€™m wondering if youā€™ve ever considered [name]Clyde[/name], [name]Clive[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Xavier[/name], [name]Rupert[/name], or [name]Atticus[/name]?

[name]Just[/name] about, [name]Clyde[/name] makes him say ā€œRight Turn, [name]Clyde[/name]ā€ so orangutan is his association, not for me!
[name]Arlo[/name] he dismisses with ā€œOne man name, canā€™t doā€ Itā€™s be like naming a girl [name]Cher[/name], to him. :frowning: too bad too, I REALLY dig [name]Arlo[/name]!
[name]Clive[/name] - reminds me of chive, him of [name]Olive[/name]. So I think heā€™s too edible for this family.
[name]Cyrus[/name] - is one I donā€™t mind and actually like quite a bit. I should mention him, see what sort of reaction he gets.
[name]Cassius[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Xavier[/name] & [name]Rupert[/name] are all on our list, somewhere. [name]Xavier[/name] is generally a middle because we both loathe the possible ex-av-ee-yer. Please, Zayv-yer or Zayv-ee-yer. No X! [name]Hugo[/name] floats on & off but [name]Cassius[/name] is a wildcard as is [name]Rupert[/name].

[name]Atticus[/name] is one I like but find far too associated with TKAM. I donā€™t mind multiple assocations but singular ones are too much for either of us. One other good [name]Atticus[/name] would make it a bit easier to live up to, too.

Iā€™m out for movie night!

I was thinking of [name]Cassius[/name] instead of [name]Casimir[/name]. Iā€™m liking [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Cassius[/name] together ([name]Harvey[/name] [name]Cassius[/name] _____). What about [name]Maxfield[/name]?

I was thinking of mentioning [name]Cyrus[/name] to you. Itā€™s amazing that someone else thought of it. Still loving [name]Harvey[/name]! Not nicknamey to me at all. Full name like [name]Henry[/name].

Funny [name]Jill[/name], Maxfirld creeps onto the list now & then becuase our favorite artist (and the one most represented around the house) is [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Parrish[/name] (he was born [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Parrish[/name], [name]Maxfield[/name] was his grandmotherā€™s surname) Hereā€™s a great site, explaining his appeal: http://www.bpib.com/illustrat/parrish.htm

Since I do like [name]Max[/name], despite popularity, this may be the way to go, hmm? [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] ____?

[name]Cassius[/name] is on the list paired with [name]Barnaby[/name] & rex in the middle. heā€™s down in wildcards right now but I like him too much to write him off.

Thanks [name]Susan[/name], harveyā€™s not very nicknamey to me either. And heā€™s staying. Iā€™ll find a place for him soemwhere!

I have absolutely no idea why [name]Maxfield[/name] popped into my head, but Iā€™m thrilled to know itā€™s been on your list. It goes so well with [name]Leo[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Josephine[/name], and as you can call him either [name]Max[/name] or [name]Maxfield[/name], you have the best of both worlds. I love [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wilder[/name] [name]John[/name]. ([name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wilder[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] just entered my mind, so I thought Iā€™d shareā€¦)

I clicked on the link, and saw that one of [name]Maxfield[/name]'s paintings includes the name ā€œ[name]Jasper[/name].ā€ [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] _____ sounds cool, as does [name]Harvey[/name] Jasper_____.

That was a very cool suggestion, [name]Jill[/name]. Iā€™m working on [name]Maxwell[/name] right now, before supper. Maybe Iā€™ll blog him tomorrow! Thanks!

I love [name_m]Anselm[/name_m]ā€“I think it would be shortened to [name_m]Elmo[/name_m], which I also think is cool.

I love [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] and [name_m]Casimir[/name_m]. [name_m]Anselm[/name_m] is cool but weird to say somehow. I like [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m].
