Some new names (DH keeps vetoing everything!)

Hey berries,

[name]Just[/name] looking for your thoughts on a few new names I’ve been considering. Thought I’d run them through you guys before letting DH take his notorious axe to them.

This baby will be a younger sister (if it’s a girl) to [name]Juliette[/name]. (I know [name]Mette[/name] looks similar, but the sounds are actually different since [name]Mette[/name] is pronounced Meh-tah.) Thanks for any input. If you have other suggestions, I’d love to hear!

I love [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Portia[/name] with [name]Juliette[/name]!

Some great names here! [name]Hope[/name] your hubby doesn’t veto them all! Lol. My favs with [name]Juliette[/name] are:

I like [name]Lia[/name] but it seems short with [name]Juliette[/name]. I’m not keen on [name]Mette[/name], it seems slightly masculine to me. [name]How[/name] about [name]Mattea[/name]? [name]Bronwyn[/name] is very Welsh and seems out of place with [name]Juliette[/name] to me, and [name]Portia[/name] has a somewhat ‘tacky’ feel to me. Not to offend anyone but it sounds stripperish to me like [name]Sapphire[/name] or [name]Destiny[/name] :S I’m not sure how to pronounce [name]Lene[/name] - would you consider [name]Lena[/name] instead? And Cielle is interesting to me but I’d worry about it sounding like [name]Seal[/name]! It is pretty though. I probably just need time for it to grow on me! [name]Hope[/name] that helps

[name]Margot[/name] is my favorite from your list

I also really like [name]Marisa[/name]!

Good luck w/ DH on these. Keep us posted

My favorite from your list is [name]Celeste[/name]. I also like [name]Marisa[/name] and [name]Bronwyn[/name].

Good luck!

I really like [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Margot[/name], and [name]Portia[/name] with [name]Juliette[/name].

Other girls names I could see working with [name]Juliette[/name], just in case hubby vetoes all of those:

[name]Juliette[/name]'s great! My thoughts:

[name]Mette[/name] - I think this looks too similar to [name]Juliette[/name], and it being pronounced like meta just makes me think of a prefix (meta-analysis, metamorphosis, you get the picture…)

[name]Althea[/name] - [name]Gibson[/name]! Hm. This feels very different, style wise, from [name]Juliette[/name], but I like the sound.

[name]Celeste[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!

[name]Lene[/name] - [name]Lena[/name]? Looks like a nickname for [name]Helene[/name], which by the way, I adore.

[name]Marisa[/name] - Cute! But, feels off, style wise, with [name]Juliette[/name].

[name]Lia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this! [name]Love[/name] [name]Lea[/name], too, as it looks less like a nickname for [name]Celia[/name] or something. Oh, [name]Celia[/name]'s cute, too!

[name]Portia[/name] - This always makes me think of a snobby brat, but that could just be me. Oh, and the car! [name]Porsche[/name]!

[name]Bronwyn[/name] - Feels way off with [name]Juliette[/name], to be honest.

[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margaux[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! [name]Love[/name] 'em both, but [name]Margaux[/name] feels a little more unusual. Like [name]Margo[/name], too!

Cielle - [name]Ciel[/name]? I’ve not seen the -elle spelling, but [name]Ciel[/name] is cute. [name]Way[/name] more unusual than [name]Juliette[/name], though.

My suggestions: [name]Adela[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Bianca[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Corinne[/name], [name]Christabel[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Elora[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Giselle[/name], [name]Gisella[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Helene[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Irena[/name], [name]Kaia[/name], [name]Kira[/name], [name]Katharine[/name], [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Leila[/name], [name]Lucienne[/name], [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Lorena[/name], [name]Livia[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Mireille[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Rosaline[/name], [name]Rosalia[/name], [name]Regina[/name], [name]Rochelle[/name], [name]Reina[/name], [name]Simone[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Therese[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Vivien[/name], [name]Valerie[/name].

[name]Lemon[/name]

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

I agree that [name]Bronwyn[/name] and [name]Portia[/name] aren’t great. They were probably my least favorite of the bunch. I love the idea of [name]Portia[/name] from the Merchant of [name]Venice[/name], but just can’t get there as far as naming a daughter that.

[name]Margaux[/name] is growing on me as a new favorite. I’m hoping DH will like the “x” factor – he seems to have a thing for x’s and v’s.

Thanks for the other suggestions! He’s already vetoed [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Aveline[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Adela[/name], [name]Bianca[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Helene[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Marielle[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Therese[/name]. (I have seriously suggested all of these – and more – only to get some strange reason why he doesn’t like it.) There are a couple you suggested which I know he does like: One is [name]Lucienne[/name], but I’m concerned about her being called [name]Lucy[/name], which I really don’t like. I have a hard time imagining saying “[name]Lucienne[/name]” all the time to a little girl. The other is [name]Natalia[/name], but I had a really obnoxious client with this name.

We talked about [name]Vivian[/name] ([name]Vivienne[/name]), but there’s a little girl in [name]Juliette[/name]'s daycare with that name and she is all I can see right now. I guess I wanted to be more original.

[name]Viola[/name] is out because he speaks Spanish and in Spanish, that is the verb for “to violate” – so her name would translate to “she violates” or “it violates”.

I think [name]Sylvie[/name] has possibilities… not sure I [name]LOVE[/name] it, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t out and out veto that one.

We both liked [name]Giselle[/name] for a while, but then my sister mentioned “jiz” as a a nickname and that just completely put off the name for me. :frowning:

I’m waiting for just the right time to broach the name subject again with him – I think he’s getting really sick of me talking about! (I’m sure many of you out there can relate!)

I love [name]Lucienne[/name] and [name]Giselle[/name] but also don’t like [name]Lucy[/name] or Jiz! I’ve thought about this before and if I had a [name]Lucienne[/name], [name]Luciana[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name] I’d call her Sia. You could spell it [name]Cia[/name]. Or even Cienne which is similar to Cielle? And if I had a [name]Giselle[/name] she’d definitely be a [name]Gia[/name] because I love that name but people have also suggested [name]Gigi[/name] and [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] to me in the past. Good luck speaking to the hubby!

Hm. I’ve heard of [name]Lucienne[/name]'s going by just [name]Lucienne[/name], and I can understand your dilemma if you don’t love [name]Lucie[/name]. So, what about Cici? Or just [name]Lu[/name]? That would be like [name]Lou[/name], or [name]Lulu[/name] - oh, [name]Lulu[/name]'s cute!

And, [name]Giselle[/name] is so, so pretty, but “jiz” isn’t so good. I’ve only heard [name]Giselle[/name]'s going by [name]Giselle[/name], but I did know a [name]Gisella[/name] who went by Gise (JEE-say), which I thought was adorable!
