I’ve been redoing my lists over the past month or so, and wanted to get some opinions on the combos that I have so far. Honest opinions are more than welcome, and any suggestions you have for changes or additions are welcome also.
Girls
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] nn [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f] nn [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Bel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (possible nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f])
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (no nn)
Boys
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Clarence[/name_m] (could nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] work with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (no nn)
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] (possible nn Rupie when small)
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (possible nn [name_m]Luc[/name_m])
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is gorgeous! I like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] as a nickname, but it’s one she may grow out of. I wouldn’t want to be called [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] as an adult.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] is very pretty. I even like [name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] as a middle. I really dislike [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as nickname for [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] takes the character out of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] on it’s own. I love [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] on it’s own. I wish they weren’t paired together.
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f]. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is a name I am not crazy about. It’s not quite my style. In [name_m]Britain[/name_m], [name_f]Bel[/name_f] may usable. In [name_u]America[/name_u], [name_f]Bel[/name_f] is really common and overused. (Usually as nickname for [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/le or [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/le.) I adore [name_f]Constance[/name_f] which is one of my top favorites.
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is nicknamey enough on it’s own. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] sounds too babyish on a adult, but for a little while when she’s a baby it could work. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is not my style, but it works particularly as a middle. (This is my least favorite of your combos).
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I find it elegant and sophisticated. Others may disagree, but I really like it.
The boys
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
I like it. It’s very Name berry to me.
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Clarence[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] as nickname, and maybe it could work for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
Is there a [name_m]Clarence[/name_m] in [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]? I forget. I like [name_m]Clarence[/name_m] as a middle only.
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
Really different for some of your other names. I see him as the brother of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f].
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] I like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] is meh for me. It’s ok.
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I have always heard [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] pronounced with a soft c. [name_m]Luc[/name_m] is pronounced (in [name_m]French[/name_m]) with a hard c. It’s a little confusing.
In general I like your girls names better than your boys. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] would definitely only be used when she’s little, or around the house when she’s older. I don’t think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] needs a nn either, but I’m hoping to gain SO’s affection by using [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nn, since he loves [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and I’d rather not use it as a full name.
Any opinions on [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]? As for [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], it is pronounced with a soft c, so do you think [name_f]Luci[/name_f] would work as a nn for around the house when he’s little?
Personally I adore [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! As emilyva said, very elegant-sounding. It’s my favourite from your list.
I know one [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] in real life who’s known by everyone as Cec (pron. Ses). [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is awkward as a nn in my opinion, and unlikely to catch on, but if it’s only you and your SO using it I can’t see why you shouldn’t use it as a nn.
Girls [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] nn [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - Definitely my favorite out of all your girl combinations. I’m not a personal fan of [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], but it works very well in this combination. I don’t like [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]. I prefer just [name_f]Bee[/name_f]. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] combo, but I don’t think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] works as a nickname for this combination. I could see it working better with a ‘L’ first name and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] as the middle. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f] nn [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Bel[/name_f] - I’m not fond of either name. I don’t think it flows very well. What about [name_f]Constance[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]? [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (possible nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]) - In my opinion [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] doesn’t need a nickname. I like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but find [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] really unattractive. I prefer [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (no nn) - This is a good solid combination. It flows very well.
Boys [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - I absolutely [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this combination. There aren’t many people that like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], but I do. It’s very charming and handsome. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Clarence[/name_m] (could nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] work with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]?) - I believe [name_m]Ned[/name_m] works for every [name_m]Ed[/name_m] name. I don’t like [name_m]Clarence[/name_m], but it works with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (no nn) - Very nice combination. I’m neutral on [name_m]Hector[/name_m], but this has a good flow and is very handsome. [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] (possible nn Rupie when small) - I’m not a fan of either name, but it’s an ok combination. [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (possible nn [name_m]Luc[/name_m]) - Another one I love. It’s a nice solid combination.
Since your partner likes [name_f]Lily[/name_f], what about other [name_f]Lil[/name_f]- names like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilias[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]? I think they all go well with your other names.
I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] could definitely work for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but I would probably use something like [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] to make it more obvious.
[name_f]Luci[/name_f] as a personal nickname will be fine, but I much prefer [name_m]Luc[/name_m].
