Some polls on my new name love ~ Yocheved

Hello lovely berries!! I’m crushing on [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f] right now, and I always like to make a couple polls on a name before I add it to my list!! Thank you in advance :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

please note that the “ch” sound is not a hard [name_f]English[/name_f] “ch” sound like in chair, it’s a soft Hebrew “ch”

I instinctively know how to pronounce yocheved
  • yes
  • no, I have no idea
  • no, but I can easily guess

yocheved is too out there for use in the U.S. (not planning to use it, this is just an interesting factor)

  • I like yocheved for you!!
  • the cons outweigh the pros and you shouldn’t add it to your list

So funny I remembered [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f] at like 1 am :joy:. I think it’s considered frum and most people in the US would butcher it. But I love the name! I think I’ll definitely use it as a middle or first for a Hebrew name especially if I’m living in [name_u]Israel[/name_u]

that was my biggest concern, especially with the meaning, but I think it’s so unfamiliar here anyway that most people wouldn’t realize that!! Your [name_f]Chaya[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is stunning!!

Awe thank you

I voted other for the second poll because I live in an area where having a very “Jewish” name like [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f] would open up a person to a lot of antisemitism. If I was still living here (i really hope not :grimacing:) when I have kids I wouldn’t use it. However, it’s really pretty and I adore the sound (Hebrew ch’s are better than [name_f]English[/name_f] ones!!!)

I say embrace the frum :joy: although it is a bit mismatched from [name_f]Mayim[/name_f], which I immediately associate with you.

I’m semi familiar with it but not 100% confident I know the pronunciation—is it said like it looks? :joy::joy:. @Babies123456 first introduced me to it. There are other Biblical and/Jewish namesakes I like more, but it is a very cool name and I think it’d make a cool fn or mn! I think some Gaelic names would be much harder to wear, for what it’s worth.

I went from modern and sleek Hebrew names to “80 year old Chasidic woman” really quickly :joy:

I mean I’m the same :joy:

For what it’s worth, [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] and [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f] would be nice together if you get past the repeated y sounds ([name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] sounds more modern to me, no idea how that holds up irl). And something like [name_f]Mayim[/name_f] [name_f]Astara[/name_f] and [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f]… [name_f]Elara[/name_f]? Something ~spacey~ would work well too!

I’m falling out of love with [name_f]Astara[/name_f] :no_mouth: I’m thinking of breaking up [name_f]Chava[/name_f] [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f] and changing it to [name_f]Mayim[/name_f] [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f] and [name_f]Chava[/name_f] [name_u]Maayan[/name_u].

[name_f]Mayim[/name_f] [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f] and [name_f]Yocheved[/name_f] [name_f]Orly[/name_f]? [name_f]Mayim[/name_f] [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f] and [name_f]Chava[/name_f] [name_u]Maayan[/name_u] are really good bridges of your style!

that sold me!! Updating my list right now

love!!! I’m bored with [name_f]Katia[/name_f] [name_f]Orly[/name_f] anyway. I’m pretty much completely re-doing my list at this point :joy:
