Some weird names that I love

This is my short list of names that I’ve only heard once (and love). I can’t tell if I’m totally off my rocker so it would be swell to get some fresh perspective! I’ve posted some of them before but never got much response. Haha- maybe that’s a sign  Please let me know what you think of each, or which you like best!

Anabay (anna-bay)
[name]Espen[/name]
Kestrel
Roo
Silby
Tupelo

Um definitely not my style
Roo makes me think of [name]Winnie[/name] the Poo
Ketrel sounds like [name]Castor[/name] Oil to me
Silby is kinda cool but [name]Silly[/name] jokeswould ensue
Tupelo Torpedo ?
Im liking [name]Espen[/name]
Anabay isnt for me but maybe for you

Anabay I think is a cool take on the combo name [name]Anna[/name]-[name]May[/name], which is ruined by Anime (sorry if there are fans around here), and I do Not think your are crazy for loving it. With a lot of combination names on the rise I think this is a fresh take from [name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Annabell[/name]/[name]Annabelle[/name] names. Very cool because it also ties into a marine element as well with the “bay”.

[name]Espen[/name] is kind of cool but I wouldn’t personal use it. Kestrel, Uh… a bit odd for my taste. Roo is cute but I would think of it more as a nickname. Silby reminds me of the name [name]Sylvie[/name] (like [name]Sylvia[/name]). I’m not crazy about it but it’s not bad. Now Tupelo, I’m not quite sure how you would pronounce this, kind of like Torpedo? I’m sorry, but I just think this is a weird name.

[name]Hope[/name] I helped you out some! Best of luck!

I like Kestrel but on a boy, and I would like [name]Anna[/name] (fn) something (middle) [name]Bay[/name] (2nd mn).

Anabay - Really liking this! However, I would personally spell it another way. Annabay, Annabé, Annabae.
[name]Espen[/name] - Like.
Kestrel - This one is not my style at all, sounds like a fish to me.
Roo - Adorable! I find this version as a cute nn choice, but [name]Rue[/name] looks more like a real name.
Silby - Similar to [name]Shelby[/name], however I agree with the ‘silly’ teasing.
Tupelo - [name]Don[/name]'t like.

I like Kestrel on a boy, but otherwise i do not like any of them. Roo is ok as a nickname for something like [name]Ruth[/name], but it’s awful on its own. And Tupelo just sounds really unattractive to me. I suppose Silby is ok…

I like Anabay and [name]Espen[/name].

For everyone’s info, Tupelo is pronounced Too- peh- low. I like [name]Espen[/name], but Kestrel reminds me of thestrals from [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]. I think Anabay is cool but definitely weird and tu pelo means your hair in Spanish, so I would never use Tupelo. Roo is weird because of its spelling, and I love the spelling [name]Roux[/name] much better. And, frankly, Silby is just weird. But they’re all cool for their uniqueness, that’s for sure.

Anabay (anna-bay)- This is okay. It could work/
[name]Espen[/name]- Not bad. Not great.
Kestrel- Not my style at all, I have no idea what to do with it
Roo- As in the son of Kanga? NMS
Silby- Sounds like [name]Silly[/name]. NMS
Tupelo- Looks like torpedo.

These names aren’t my style, they’re pretty weird. Sorry if my opinions were harsh!

  • [name]Athena[/name]

Thank you all! No worries about being harsh. “Roo-as in Kanga” has me in stitches. I still like it though…maybe because the girl I know with this name is so cool! Back to the drawing board!

Anabay (anna-bay) - Usable, I think. It definitely looks made up, but I don’t think it would send a kid to therapy.
[name]Espen[/name] - Mmm, not my style. I like [name]Aspen[/name] better.
Kestrel - I actually really like Kestrel. I think it’s one of the more useable animal names.
Roo - Very cute nickname, but needs a real name to go with it.
Silby - Again, sounds nickname-y and juvenile
Tupelo - Umm, no, not on a real person.

Anabay- sounds like you’re saying [name]Annamae[/name] with a stuffy nose. It’s not terrible but I’d go with [name]Ana[/name] [name]Bay[/name]
[name]Espen[/name]- sounds like someone trying to sound out ESPN. Go with [name]Aspen[/name] or Espry
Kestrel- it’s OK for a boy
Roo- Kanga & Roo
Silby- [name]Sylvie[/name] with a stuffy nose
Tupelo- honey

I thought I would add the reason why I don’t like the names. Tupelo - Tupe (hair piece), Silby - silly, [name]Espen[/name] - ESPN, Roo - kangaroo, Anabay - too close to anime, Kestrel just doesn’t sound like a baby name

Anabay sounds really good to me, but the way it’s spelled looks made up. Maybe Annabay? Or [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Bay[/name]? I’m not sure. [name]Love[/name] the sound tho!

I concur…

[name]Espen[/name] and Kestrel are two that I’m really liking here. If the beginning initial of ‘[name]Espen[/name]’ became ‘a’ as in ‘[name]Aspen[/name]’, you would have two ready-made nature names for your child.
Anabay - Sweet and fragile sounding. A spin-off of the all-too-popular [name]Ana[/name]? I like it
Roo- Cute, light and bouncy. The spelling would deter me and remind me of Kanga’s other half. [name]How[/name] about [name]Roux[/name] or [name]Rue[/name]?
Silby- Sounds like ‘[name]Silvia[/name]’ or ‘[name]Willoughby[/name]’, I agree that jokes would be made.
Tupelo- would have to have a really deep meaning. I think it’s a place name? It reminds me of Buffalo.

Good luck on your decision making!

Anabay (anna-bay) - This just makes me think [name]Ana[/name]-baby. I’m not a fan.
[name]Espen[/name] - Looks like you spelled [name]Aspen[/name] wrong.
Kestrel - Reminds me of thestrals from [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]. A little too weird.
Roo - Maybe for a nickname.
Silby - Meh.
Tupelo - No. No. No. There are far better ways to honor [name]Elvis[/name] if you want to, and if that isn’t your goal with this… no.

Haha, reading your comment on [name]Espen[/name] - I actually will pronounce out the letters of ESPN sometimes and that is how I say it. And I didn’t even connect Tupelo with tupes, but that is a good point.

None of them are really my style, but if I had to pick one of your choices it would be [name]Espen[/name].

I like Kestrel on a boy. Like the twin names [name]Cassie[/name] and Kestrel. Sorry not keen on the others.
