For those who like Meg, what is the appeal? Its so short and not feminine and rhymes with egg, peg, leg… M is a nice letter and the character from a Wrinkle is Time is endearing but slightly annoying too Anyway, just want to better understand the appeal since it seems well liked on here.
i love meg! she’s one of my favourite names. i like her as a nickname for margaret, but i also think that just meg is super cute, and i love the pet name nutmeg. i really like how short she is- it’s a very punchy and spunky name.
i first encountered the name meg in a children’s book i loved when i was younger, and it became a favourite name of mine fast- plus meg from a wrinkle in time as you mentioned!
overall, it just feels to me like a very spirited and bright name with a fun and unique sound.
I really like [name_f]Meg[/name_f]! It’s very cute, spunky, and very straight to the point. I think it has the charm of it being girly but not too frilly. And I think it’s bc a lot people like it from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women.
I honestly think [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is still quite underrated, especially as a full name!
I guess part of the reason I like [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is because I’m partial to the general style of punchy short names that feel both offbeat and sweet and have a bit of history to them. Names like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_u]Pim[/name_u], [name_u]Cal[/name_u], and such are right up my alley!
I also love the literary nature of it, as that is always a very special quality in a name to me. I think of A Wrinkle In Time and [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, and while neither are my very favorite character, both are lovely and great role models! They also help the name feel a bit more established, if nickname-names were not your thing.
[name_f]Meg[/name_f] also reminds me of nutmeg, which is a vague but sweet association! It makes the name so warm and homey to me. [name_f]Meg[/name_f] will always make me think of warm light and home baked goods, finishing a good book and witty teasing with friends.
Hopefully some of this helps you see the appeal! Obviously not every name is for everyone.
Oh, I adore Meg so much! She’s an underrated and lovely little blossom.
I think that Meg is a no nonsense, timeless little nickname (or full name)! She’s so clever for Margaret and punchy on her own. Vintage and quick. I associate her with books and beauty, motherhood and May-time flowers. She’s so strong and cool to me.
I find Meg feminine because of her LW connection, but I love that she ends in a hard sound and feels so grounded!
Gus rhymes with fuss, muss.
Lou rhymes with chew, stew, few.
Anna rhymes with banana.
Jack rhymes with tack, sack, black, attack.
Pip rhymes with rip, blip, slip.
Ned rhymes with fed, bed, bread, fled.
I don’t mind a word rhyme, just because there are plenty out there.
While [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is not really on my list out of all of the variations (Megan/Margaret/Megara etc) [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Meg[/name_f] would probably be my favorite. It fits pretty well with the ‘May’ trend like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] (at least in my accent Meg’s pronunciation vary’s between May-g and M-eh-g) Its familiar, short and sweet and not overly popular.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: the ‘nutmeg’ connection is also very sweet!
I have a friend called [name_f]Meg[/name_f] (from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] but she’s never been called [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and has effectively disowned the name). It’s quite a stern and commanding name, but there’s also something undeniably disarming and sweet about it too. [name_f]My[/name_f] friend stands out as a [name_f]Meg[/name_f]! It makes her seem authoritative and sensible.
[name_f]Meg[/name_f] is not my top favourite name, but I think it’s sweet. I have a feeling that this is that type of name, that is adorable to a lot of people because of associations. The way people find the name [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ultra girly, princess’y and ribbons all over, even though the sound of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is actually pretty strong. It’s because of The Sleeping [name_f]Beauty[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Meg[/name_f] has childhood connections and it brings that calming feeling - [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women is a quite comforting lovely book/ movie, you feel at home. I also think it was a nickname of [name_f]Megara[/name_f] in a [name_f]Disney[/name_f] movie, and she was beautiful and sassy.
I suppose because it’s so short and not super feminine? But in all seriousness, I suppose I do like it for some of the reasons you don’t? It gives me the vibes of other names I like - [name_u]Nev[/name_u], [name_u]Tay[/name_u], [name_u]Rai[/name_u], [name_u]Bo[/name_u], [name_u]Sol[/name_u] - but it’s cosier, warmer, more classic to me
The title of this made me laugh
[name_f]My[/name_f] first encounter with [name_f]Meg[/name_f] was [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women so I associate it with all the feistiness, beauty and sincerity of the [name_u]March[/name_u] sisters. It has the combined vigour and quaintness of many old fashioned nicknames like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_m]Ned[/name_m], [name_u]Pip[/name_u].
To me it’s a warm spiced colour, like a cinnamon red/brown, probably because of the association with nutmeg (and perhaps because LW is quite Christmassy).
When I think of [name_f]Meg[/name_f] I think of a girl with tousled red hair, in a winter coat and hat, red freckled cheeks from doing something exhilarating in the cold like skating or a snowball fight.
I’m a fan of [name_f]Meg[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is bright, fun, unexpected and has a sweet tailored feel. I like the no nonsense straight forward feel to [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and how she doesn’t seem to be on people’s radars despite loving vintage names especially in the UK. [name_f]Meg[/name_f] has great literacy connotations which makes her even more appealing and I think paired with something like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] she’d be very pretty.
I love [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and everything about it. It is timeless and romantic too. I also see it as a name for a sweet rambunctious girl paired with sisters named [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], or [name_u]Rue[/name_u].
