Someone stole Margo! What?!?!

OK, so they really didn’t steal it as they didn’t know it was “my” name, but I am flabbergasted that [name]Margo[/name] is on someone else’s radar! I am from a fairly traditional small town in the South, and we tend towards Isabellas or Cadences. [name]Margo[/name] has been my top pick for a second daughter since before I had [name]Phoebe[/name]. I can’t believe this mom (who has an [name]Ava[/name]) has chosen this name that I always thought so safe from popularity issues. I’m in a spin!

how about [name]Cordelia[/name]? has a spunky feel to it!

Wow I am suprised by that. I don’t know any kids named [name]Margo[/name]. I wonder if she’s named for a relative?

Are you close with this mom, and is your [name]Phoebe[/name] close with her [name]Ava[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you know for sure that she’ll be using [name]Margo[/name]? I say, still use [name]Margo[/name] - you might regret it if you don’t, and even if someone nearby has a baby [name]Margo[/name], it isn’t a popular name…

PS Yes, [name]Margo[/name] goes better with [name]Phoebe[/name] than [name]Ava[/name]. I agree with you.

I am not really close with the mom, but we do see them at birthday parties, etc. I think it would be pretty hard for me to use [name]Margo[/name] after I see another baby with that name around. It’s pretty well off the list. My husband has been pulling for [name]Clementine[/name] all along, so at least he’ll be happy!

!!! That’s on my shortlist! No!

[name]Margot[/name] is so pretty…is there ever a chance of moving from that town? I would still consider it…if you are not close with this person, you may not even see her in a couple of years…

[name]Clementine[/name] is sweet with [name]Phoebe[/name] as well…

Wagnerem: [name]Delia[/name] is on our long list as well! Thanks for the suggestion!

My daughter’s name is [name]Phoebe[/name] too (!) and a friend down the street stole that name. We live up [name]North[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] is about 100 on the NYC name list. Not too common but definitely “inspired” by my daughter. And I have to say, even though they are not the same age, my daughter is VERY close with her older one so there definitely is name confusion.
[name]IMO[/name], I like [name]Marlo[/name] or [name]Clementine[/name] better anyways. [name]Both[/name] sound great with [name]Phoebe[/name].
Good luck!!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Lesley[/name]! [name]How[/name] old is your [name]Phoebe[/name]? Mine is 2 1/2 and definitely a ‘[name]Phoebe[/name]’ -spunky, funny, and FULL of personality! In other words, a handful! I guess that at some point, you just have to take name-borrowing as a compliment to your child’s name and to the child themselves, as surely no one would pick your kid’s name if they thought your kid was anything less than adorable!

Update on baby [name]Margo[/name]: She’s actually using [name]Margo[/name] as the mn, but will call her [name]Margo[/name]. Her mom knew a [name]Margo[/name] in school and always loved it, so she has wanted to use it forever. Similar to my story, so I guess she has equal claim! =) I will just have to make my peace with giving it up, or decide not to care that we know another [name]Margo[/name] (always harder when the name is so unusual-sounds like you stole it from them. Sigh.)

[name]Hi[/name]!

Aw, I’m sorry that [name]Margo[/name] is officially off your list. [name]Clementine[/name] is sweet, though, so I’m glad your husband has that one he likes!

[name]Phoebe[/name] is such a precious, spunky, playful name - with a great meaning! - and her little sister deserves to have an equally wonderful name. I hope you find what you are looking for! [name]Just[/name] in case you want more ideas (you might not - sorry!), here are some I’d choose for [name]Phoebe[/name]'s sister:

[name]Calla[/name] - “beautiful”
[name]Cassia[/name] - “cinnamon”
[name]Evangeline[/name] - “bearer of good news”
[name]Iris[/name] - “rainbow”
[name]Roxane[/name] - “dawn”
[name]Thalia[/name] - “to flourish”

All of these compliment [name]Phoebe[/name] (“radiant, shining one”) in meaning and playful, softly feminine feel - at least I think so! Good luck!

My [name]Phoebe[/name] is 6 1/2 and just a sweet, lovely little person. Almost too nice!!
I have another daughter ([name]Hadley[/name]) and while I have loved both names since reading them in books when I was 14, I do not like the rhymey - “ee” endings. Couple that with my own name and I can only suggest that you avoid a similar fate!!
I truly love the name [name]Clementine[/name]. Since I did not have a nn growing up, I did not want one for my daughters.
Not sure if this would help you but here are my fave girl names if my husband would ever give in to a fourth!
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name]
[name]Paget[/name]
Aven
[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Liv[/name]/ [name]Livia[/name]/ [name]Lydia[/name] (a good Greek name to go with your first)
I hope you are not finding [name]Phoebe[/name] on too many little girls. There are 5 in our neighborhood alone - a second in my daughter’s grade!! I avoided [name]Abby[/name] to not be [name]Abby[/name] S and here we are. Oh well. It is just a good name! Good luck!

One other thing - I named my son after his Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and call him a nn on the middle (slightly confusing). We had planned this forever and a woman at work had a baby before me and did the same thing. We do not live in the same town or even see each other now but right when she named him, I just told her flat out what we were planning. If there is special meaning behind it, what can you argue? But if they just liked it (see [name]Houston[/name], We Have a Problem thread) then that is plain annoying!!!

What do you think about using the name Devereux instead? Maybe her nn could be [name]Ever[/name]. Also if you want something more feminine there’s [name]Marguerite[/name] which is the French version of the name [name]Daisy[/name]. Maybe her nn could be [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Margo[/name].

Thanks for all the name suggestions!
[name]Lesley[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] is the only one we know in her age range as of now. Like I said, we live in a pretty traditional area. Most of our baby friends are [name]Julia[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], etc. I always thought [name]Phoebe[/name] would never get too popular b/c of the spelling issues, but apparently that’s not much of a deterrent, at least in NYC! Here’s hoping it levels off!

You could say that you know this great granny on nameberry whose name is ([name]Caroline[/name]) [name]Margot[/name] and that has set it in stone for you because now you just have to use the name!!

Any excuse to use a good name.

All the best from the oldest nameberrite.

[name]Margo[/name] seems to be one of those up and coming names and maybe 2010 is the year for it? This is the third time I’ve heard of someone naming their baby [name]Margo[/name] and prior to this, I’d never heard it!

Maybe you are right. I have already posted about my anxiety over naming a baby [name]Margo[/name] with so many new Maggies and Margarets around us. And you do see [name]Margo/name a lot on Nameberry. Of course, you see [name]Phoebe[/name] a lot…and [name]Clementine[/name]… Crap. There’s just no winning, is there? =)
