We were considering the name [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] for an honor name but it’s not what we really like.
[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] (Family) is known as nicknames Jayna or even [name_f]Jada[/name_f] and [name_f]Neve[/name_f] or [name_f]Neva[/name_f].
This has come about from accents in the family. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] is not spoken as
[name_f]Jenefer[/name_f] more as [name_f]Janeva[/name_f].
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] or [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] are some ideas apart from the nick names themselves. Nadeja? too away from it, and what is stopping us from [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] variations is that the names begin with the letter ‘G’. We were hoping to think of a ‘J’ name. If any suggestions for a more classic name that could give Jayna or [name_f]Neve[/name_f] as a nickname ? Thank you for any help.
Some names that might work for you:
[name_f]Jacinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
Thank@davisellu we like these. I certainly like [name_f]Jacinda[/name_f], I am first looking for a name to use Jayna or [name_f]Neve[/name_f] (or both) as a nickname)
I meant to make it clearer in my post that we like both [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], and we have not discarded them. Still hoping to find a ‘J’ name but would like your opinions on the names we thought of too.
I like [name_f]Jacinda[/name_f] best with the nn Jayna/Jaina. For [name_f]Neve[/name_f], I think you could use [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], or [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. If you want to get cre8tive with spelling, you could use [name_f]Jeneva[/name_f] or Jinevra (although these are not my personal style). You could use the more British pronunciation of [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] ([name_m]George[/name_m]-jane-ah) and get to Jayna from that too.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about swapping the ‘G’ with a ‘J’? The names you listed are pronounced with a J anyhow so I don’t think it would be off.
I like [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] (with a ‘J’: Jinevra/Jenevra).
I’m partial to [name_f]Jacinda[/name_f] since it’s my daughter’s name. [name_f]Jada[/name_f] could def be used as a nn (first and last 2 letters).
@davisellu, I agree with your thoughts. [name_f]Jacinda[/name_f] is great ( a good sibset? -but I’ll worry about that later if at all.) If you can get Jayna out of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] then it seems an easy task. Somehow the [name_f]Jen[/name_f] beginning became [name_f]Jane[/name_f] through family accents as [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] tells us. [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] feels like too much hard work.
Using creative spelling is not our choice either so if we end up more inclined to honour [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] through the name [name_f]Neve[/name_f], It might have to be with a G name. Obviously I can’t think of any J names like that so I wanted to ask on Nameberry if anyone can think of any name which doesn’t need to be spelt outside the norm.
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] or [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] which do you all prefer? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like either?
@lisalieu thank you for posting. I said in my previous post I am not in favor of creative spelling but I hear your opinion. I love Ginevra I am just so reticent about substituting the spelling.
I did not realize the next post was from you too. Your daughter is Jacinda, how lovely, congrats on an amazing choice - I like it so much and it’s the getting Jada from it which is tangibly there but perhaps not the first nickname people think off that appeals to me.
Genevieve might be the name which gives most options but its the name I like least. We will likely have to decide which nickname we are going to choose to honour.
Its quaint that Jennifer, herself, has 3 different names from different areas of her life. No doubt that seemed a great attraction at first. (She doesn’t want us to just use Jennifer so that’s a bonus) but it’s proving to be to be too much choice right now.
I’m not sure you’re looking for alternatives to/opinions on [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], or for ways to honour [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], or both?
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] sounds fresh and modern and a bit quirky to me, unusual as a person’s name but familiar to people because of the city. I like the mysterious and slightly dark vibe [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] gives off but find the sound a bit harsh to be honest. It also makes me think of [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] Weasley, but that’s not a bad association!
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] sounds similar to [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], but starts with a J. There’s also [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], which has the same beginning and ending sounds? Or [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Jeannette[/name_f] or [name_f]Jeanine[/name_f] which share a lot of the same sounds too.
From your first post I thought “[name_f]Janeva[/name_f]” is pronounced the same as [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], juh-NEE-vah, but from your update, if it has the “jane” sound at the front, does it basically sound like a smoosh of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f]? In which case, you could use [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as first and middle name. Or even [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as a double first name. It sounds really sweet and classic, it reminds me of [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as a double name like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_m]Saint[/name_m].
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is another form of the name [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] itself, so would be a good honour. I’m not sure if you know you’re having a girl, but if it’s a boy, what about [name_m]Jeff[/name_m] or [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]?
And you could just use Jayna or [name_f]Neve[/name_f] itself as a full name, they definitely sound substantial enough to be. I don’t think they have to be nicknames. You probably would run into spelling issues though.
[name_f]Janina[/name_f] is a name that reminds me of Jayna, but it’s [name_m]German[/name_m] and pronounced yuh-neen-ah rather than with an English J sound. There’s also [name_f]Jade[/name_f] which sounds similar, and [name_u]Dana[/name_u] which rhymes with Jayna, you could spell it [name_f]Dayna[/name_f] to make the honour more obvious? Or [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f] for [name_f]Neve[/name_f].
Good luck deciding!
I actually think any of your three name choices are a perfect tribute to “[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]” already! It’s about how it sounds so sharing a particular letter isn’t such a huge factor, considering. But I also understand if the ‘J’ is important to you. Basically, for me, I wouldn’t be against overlooking that factor as long as the flow was there.
And thank you… Each of your name picks are lovely; I especially love [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], as stated!
[name_f]Giada[/name_f] perhaps?
