Personally I like combos that are filled with special family meaning, honoring, and names with positive meanings. I feel more attached to these combos. In my research for finding names that I would love and fill my combo rules (they are not rules, just can not think of a better word) I discovered [name_m]Espen[/name_m]. [name_m]Espen[/name_m] means “God bear”. I am not a big fan of naming a child one thing and then using a nickname or middle name most of the time. [name_m]Espen[/name_m] is that one name that I feel I would break that rule with, well not completely break it. I love the idea of my little guy being called [name_m]Espen[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m].
The story behind why [name_m]Espen[/name_m] “[name_m]Bear[/name_m]” would be special, for those that would like to know. When I was around 4 or 5 years old I received a teddy bear from my uncle and aunt that was bigger then I was for [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]. This started I love for all things bear. I collected all types of bears up until about 10 years ago. Family members would find bear items on trips around the states, and also around the world. I received bear items for special occasions; graduation, birthdays, marriage, a pregnancy, etc.
What are your thoughts about the name [name_m]Espen[/name_m]?
What are your thoughts on breaking rules? What are some rules you have broken?
It is nice to hear that someone else likes [name_m]Espen[/name_m], usually the only feedback is that it is too much like ESPN
I don’t care about matching sibsets and although following the varying-syllables rule is nice, it is not of the utmost importance to me. I try to stay away from trendy names but the boys name that we will probably use ends in “n” which is very trendy for boys now. I would also prefer it to be a little less common. But since the name has family importance, that trumps everything else and I will be happy to use it.
Personally I feel E S P N and [name_m]Espen[/name_m] are quite different. Unless they are trying to sound out ESPN, and that would be incorrect. Now I do feel [name_m]Espen[/name_m] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] are very similar sounding and people could confuse the both.
I like [name_m]Espen[/name_m] fine. If you wanted to name you son [name_m]Espen[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Bear[/name_m], I think that would be very cool and very meaningful and I love those types of nicknames.
I don’t have any real naming rules, so I haven’t really broken any. We just don’t want anything too Christiany as we’re Pagans and we’d like all of our combos to have a Greek name in there somewhere.
[name_m]Espen[/name_m] is really handsome with a very cool meaning. I love using the meaning of the name a nickname. Some rules are made to be broken sometimes for sure. I love nicknames in general, especially ones with meanings
