My husband wants to use the nickname [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] if we have a boy. I think it could work for any name as it would be a ‘son’ for us, but we’re considering ‘son’ ending names all the same.
Other than the common [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], what other names are there? I don’t want anything that sounds too made up, like you’ve just added ‘son’ onto the end of a normal name, but at the same time if it’s a little different I don’t mind.
[name_m]Edison[/name_m] - I really like this one, going on the list.
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] - My best friend is named [name_f]Emma[/name_f], I think it might be a bit close to use.
[name_m]Morrison[/name_m] - Can’t use as it’s the name of a supermarket in the UK.
[name_m]Jason[/name_m] - My husband’s brother’s name.
[name_m]Kason[/name_m] - Looks made up to me.
[name_m]Greyson[/name_m] - Alright, though I’m not sure I like that it has two equally possible spellings [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] and [name_m]Grayson[/name_m].
[name_u]Easton[/name_u]/[name_m]Weston[/name_m] - I don’t think these will work.
[name_m]Lawson[/name_m] - Like this, on the list too.
[name_m]Dawson[/name_m] - Same as above.
My son’s name is [name_m]Cayson[/name_m]. It’s a smoosh name for us, because [name_u]Casey[/name_u] is a family surname and both my maiden name and my husband’s mom’s maiden name end in -son. So I guess I made it up, but I’m okay with made up names if there’s a reason.
I like [name_m]Winston[/name_m], Ebsen, and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], too.
[name_m]Cayson[/name_m] - I don’t think it’s one I would use, but I love that it means so much to you in one name, how great that you managed to do that.! I like this spelling better than [name_m]Kason[/name_m] though.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - I don’t know if the [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Churchill[/name_m] association is too much, plus it’s a -ston ending which probably won’t work.
Ebsen - Never heard of this before but it does feel a bit made up to me.
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] - I like this too, on the list.
tee hee, I was typing and taking a phone call at the same time. Ebsen, I’ve never heard of either, my fingers just made it up accidentally. I was trying to type [name_m]Edson[/name_m]. I prefer it to [name_m]Edison[/name_m], it has the same etymology.
Haha, you’ve just made up a new name! [name_m]Edson[/name_m] is nice but I think it’s probably going to be mistaken for [name_m]Edison[/name_m] a lot of the time as it’s much more unsual.
[name_m]Benson[/name_m] - I quite like this, list.
[name_u]Carson[/name_u] - Would a [name_u]Carson[/name_u] and a [name_m]Carl[/name_m] be too close?
[name_m]Wilson[/name_m] - Like this too, list
[name_m]Branson[/name_m] - Too close to Branston, which is a type of pickle.
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] - Looks too much like you’ve added ‘on’ onto the end of [name_u]James[/name_u] for me.
[name_m]Bryson[/name_m] - Like [name_u]Bryce[/name_u], but not [name_m]Bryson[/name_m], again feels made up.
[name_m]Nelson[/name_m] - Like this, list as well.
[name_m]Robertson[/name_m], if it hasn’t been suggested yet. What’s your husband’s name? since -son names usually mean “son of,” maybe you could get a name that way?
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m] being my favorite, but it’s probably because that’s the only one I like a nn for ([name_u]Gray[/name_u]), and I like that it honors my grandmother. Otherwise, [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] or [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] would likely be on my list, I adore all three.
I think [name_m]Kason[/name_m] is the sort of American spelling of Kaeson… Gaelic name? No?
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] I could help though! We are sort of taken with …son or at least names that end with ‘n’ too.
The -son names are becoming like a plague. I’m not talking about [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], and [name_m]Jason[/name_m]. Those are real names. [name_m]Cayson[/name_m], [name_m]Jacen[/name_m], [name_m]Bryson[/name_m], [name_m]Kason[/name_m] - these are trendy, nauseating, pretentious - and made up. There are so many good names without resorting to those! They’re not names, they’re an assemblage of sounds. Making up a name won’t make your kid unique - these names that try so hard to stand out all sound alike. At least [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Winston[/name_m] and [name_u]Carson[/name_u] are legit names and have character.
