"Son of"

What are some names you like that literally mean “son of” another name?
I was inspired by seeing that [name]Judson[/name] means “son of [name]Jordan[/name]”

We’re currently considering [name]Charleston[/name] or [name]Jameson[/name], since our fathers’ names are [name]Charles[/name] and [name]James[/name]. I’m not sure that they literally mean “son of”, but that’s the inspiration.

[name]Anderson[/name] - [name]Son[/name] of [name]Anders[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name] - [name]Son[/name] of [name]Emery[/name]

I think that’s it. I guess I don’t like many, but I REALLY like the ones I do.

I’m using [name]Jameson[/name] for bubs middle name if its a boy - my husband, dad & grandfather are all [name]James[/name] so I love it.

My favorite -son name by far is [name]Grayson[/name]. Technically, it means “son of the steward” or “son of the bailiff” (according to Nameberry), but my grandmother’s MN is [name]Grace[/name], so it sort of sounds like [name]Grace[/name]'s son. Technically, great-grandson, but still. I’m a huge fan of -son names, though–I also adore [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Hudson[/name], [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Jameson[/name], [name]Edison[/name], and [name]Addison[/name] (not necessarily in that order!).

[name]Mackenzie[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name] (not actually ‘son of’ but ‘descendant of’)
[name]Tennyson[/name]

Gunson (‘son of a gun’)
HA. Kidding.

I like some ‘son of’ names, but only if they are actually truly the ‘son/grandson of ______’. If they are, then any of them can work pretty well I think.

That made me laugh! Thank you, Jav!

I like all the [name]Fitz[/name]-names (fitz means son):
FitzAlan, [name]FitzHugh[/name], [name]FitzRoy[/name], [name]Fitzsimmons[/name], [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] and there are more.

I’m also rather fond of the names where the ck’s and s’s become an x:
Coxon, [name]Dixon[/name], Foxon; but I have no idea who’s sons they are supposed to be.

The Scottish ones; [name]Mac[/name] means son up there:
Macalister, Macfadden, Macgowan, Macinnes, Maclachlan, to name a few.

And Welsh ones:
[name]Bevan[/name], [name]Bowen[/name], [name]Evans[/name], Givens, [name]Hughes[/name], [name]Phelps[/name].

I like [name]Davidson[/name]. I have friend who named their baby [name]Davidson[/name]… dad’s name is [name]David[/name]. I find the “son of” names are not used in the traditional way anymore (i.e. the little boy is the son of…) so I like it when it works.

I also love [name]Addison[/name] - meaning son of [name]Adam[/name].

I’d love to use it, since my partner is [name]Adam[/name], however I definitely see it as a girls name, and we already have our girls names picked out.

I love [name]Hudson[/name] and [name]Grayson[/name]. If they weren’t so trendy I would have them on my own list for a boy.
