Son's first name too similar to daughter's middle name?

My husband and I are having a hard time coming up with a list of names we agree on for our son, and none of the names on our shortlist come without some reservations. So far, we’ve got:

[name_m]Alec[/name_m] (see below)
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (trending girly)
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] (trending girly)
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] (see below)
[name_u]Alden[/name_u] (looks a lot like “[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]” when typed, which I’m not keen on)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] (not sure if it’s “complete” enough for a first name, but don’t like any of the longer versions that would allow it to be used as a nickname)

[name_m]Alec[/name_m] is at the top of my husband’s list. My concerns are: (1) whether it’s odd to use [name_m]Alec[/name_m] on the birth certificate when most people think it’s a short form of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and (2) whether it’s too close to our daughter’s middle name, which is [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. I should add that both [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Alec[/name_m] are family names, which is why I wanted to get it in there for our daughter’s middle name, but would it be weird for them to be so similar?

Any other suggestions for us to consider? My husband’s dislikes are (1) last names as first names, and (2) names with R in them, which he finds hard to pronounce ([name_m]Henry[/name_m] has only survived because I really like it and he’d probably be okay with it as a middle name).

Thanks for the help!

I do think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] is too similar to [name_u]Alex[/name_u] to really be feasible.

Since I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] so much (and can’t use it), I just want to be sure you’ve tried all the long forms; in addition to the obvious [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], have you considered [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]?

I think you have a larger girl-trend problem with [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] than with [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. But if you’re too worried, what about [name_u]Elias[/name_u]?

I think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] could work, but personally it would bother me to have [name_m]Alec[/name_m] & [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].

And from your other options I love [name_u]Alden[/name_u] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! Would you consider Finnick as a longer form?
