Believe it or not, my love of names (especially weird names) actually started when I was a child. I remember first watching [name_m]Zenon[/name_m]: The Girl From The 21st Century (anybody remember that show!?) and from the first minute I heard it I was intrigued, it was so different from any other name I’ve heard before.
Sad to say that I had completely forgotten about it until I saw old some videos of me where the show was on in the background and just like before, it captured my interest again.
So what do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Zenon[/name_m] is usable today?
It definitely isn’t my style, but I don’t think it doesn’t work. I prefer it on a boy. I really like Zenith for a girl though and have since I was a kid.
Zenith is new to me! I’m also intrigued with this one! Or maybe I’m starting to get a crush on Z-type names. I go through phases like that sometimes lol.
Honestly my first thought was ‘girl of the 21st century’ its not my style but its not bad it wouldn’t be too out of place with all the female [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]’s & Scouts’ plus the rising popularity of ‘z’ names
If we have a boy, he will be named [name_u]Zen[/name_u]ón, which was my husband’s grandfather’s name. It is pronounced [name_m]Say[/name_m]-NOHN, not [name_f]ZEE[/name_f]-nahn. I figure most people will use the second pronunciation though, the one from the movie.
I have never heard it pronounced like “say-nohn” as the correct pronunciation for this spelling is “zee-nohn”. But if you’d like it to be pronounced as “say-nohn” then I suggest you spell it like Zénon as the letter “é” is what makes the “ey/ay” sound.
My husband is from Mexico, and that is how it is pronounced in Spanish. The accent mark over the O makes the emphasis on the second syllable. I don’t know if accent marks are used on U.S. birth certificates though. We have two girls, and both would have been named [name_m]Zenon[/name_m]/[name_u]Zen[/name_u]ón if they were boys.
Well [name_m]Zenon[/name_m] is a unisex name, used both for girls and boys so you could’ve named them [name_m]Zenon[/name_m] either way. And if you live in [name_u]California[/name_u] I know that they don’t allow accents on birth certificates, which sucks because certain accent marks can make a lot of difference in pronunciation. If you live in another state I’d look up naming laws just to make sure.
When I first read this I assumed you meant for [name_m]Zenon[/name_m] (Zennon) to rhyme with [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]. I thought it sounded really nice!
Then I realized the pronunciation you meant, and it doesn’t have the same vibe to me. Then it becomes really ‘outer-space’ sounding to me, and it’s really not my taste.
