We have narrowed it down to these two names. Our last name begins with an “St” and goes nicely with both names (especially [name_f]Stella[/name_f]). I know they are both popular, but pretty much every name I like is at least becoming popular. My only concern with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is people calling her “[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]”. Thoughts?..
My favorite of the two is [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and it sounds like you seem to like it, too! If it goes along nicely with your last name, and you both like it, I would say go for it. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, I agree. I don’t think you’d get too many people calling her [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], however there will certainly be people mistaking the e for an a and asking if her full name is [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Pick what you think is right. Which one sounds better? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have middle names picked out, and if so, do you favor one over the other? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like one of their nicknames better? Good luck picking a name (I’d love an update!), congratulations, and I hope everything goes smoothly!

I do not think you need to be concerned about her being called [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Does one speak louder to you? Would you be really disappointed if you didn’t use or couldn’t use one? Can you imagine a little [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Stella[/name_f] in your life; watching her learn to crawl, walk, first day of school, first dance, graduating, watching her walk down the aisle, etc? It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, says, or prefers.
Both are lovely names; can’t go wrong.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is the more popular, so I would go with [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
Since your last name starts with St, I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] will probably work best. It’s an established name in it’s own right so I don’t think people will assume that it’s a nn for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
They’re different images for me: [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] for a strong, happy and more introverted, diligent type and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] for someone outgoing and sentimental. I’m leaning towards [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] with a St last name.
Thank you everyone for your input! I will let you know what we end up choosing. Someone asked about middle names, I have a middle name picked out for one, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. We have not chosen a middle name for [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] for sure. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]/ [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is extremely popular and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] would definitely get confused for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Stella[/name_f] has a more beautiful sound and I like the meaning as well.
I’d go with [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. I love alliterative names and the “St” alliteration sounds divine!
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but I love the sophisticated [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is soft and sweet. I don’t mind [name_f]Stella[/name_f] but [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] gets my vote in a heartbeat. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is gorgeous!
