I love the name [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and think the meaning “wisdom” is a lovely thing to bestow upon a little girl. However, our last name is a three syllable name starting with a hard “S” sound. What do you think, would that be okay? We’re thinking middle name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], as well.
All the names I’ve heard with the same first and last letter always sounded a little funny, almost like a rhyme or something. Evertyime you say their first name you want to say their last name cause it flows to that.
If S is the only sound the first and last names have in common it should be fine. If there are other sounds that are the same or similar it might be a bit too much.
I think it is fine, as long as the last name doesn’t end in the -ie sound. Also having a different number of syllables helps. So [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] is too rhymey to me, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Partridge is better and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Parkinson would be best.
As long as your surname doesn’t actually sound like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] (doesn’t rhyme, start with ‘so’ or end ‘ie’) I can’t see anything wrong with it. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely.
This. I remember a girl called [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] in elementary school and I’ve always thought her name sounded great, but I think it works because the only sound the first and last names have in common is “M”.
