So I’ve had blood work done to confirm my pregnancy, but I scheduled an appointment this morning and the soonest my OB could get me in is the end of [name_u]January[/name_u]?? I’ll be almost 13 weeks by then so this makes me nervous.
Has anyone else waited this long to see your doctor?
No I haven’t but I have exceptional care with my obstetrician. Is this a new doctor to you being your first pregnancy? Some ob’s will not see patients until they hit 13 weeks. I wouldn’t be able to handle that long. I have always had ultrasounds early.
Usually they try to see you between 8-10 weeks, my OBGYN prefers 10 weeks (which is when I got mine scheduled) because they can normally find the heartbeat via using a doppler.
My guess is you picked an OBGYN who already has a lot of patients, so you kind of got the short end of the stick. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other back ups you might want to try seeing instead? It’s not a huge deal to wait till 13 weeks, but you’ll be pushing it for getting the NT Screening done if that is something you want to do (has to be down between 12-14 weeks).
I’m really considering on going ahead and seeing a nurse practitioner until my OB appointment for reassurance purposes. It just seems like a really long time to wait for my first appointment.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought, but does the area you live in have a women’s clinic or crisis pregnancy center? Or even a Planned Parenthood? They could possibly be of some assistance to you, if needed, even if you just have any concerns. I live in a relatively small town, but we have a women’s pregnancy clinic (I think that’s all they specialize in) down the block from me and many women I know have gone their in their early pregnancies because of the huge wait list for the only decent doctor in the area, who is a family doctor but also delivers babies.
I didn’t have an appointment with a midwife until I was 14/15 weeks. However, I did have the 12 week scan done on time. Has that been scheduled for you? That was my first appointment after the GP appointment where I got the blood test confirmation. I’m not sure if things are different in Australia, or maybe if the model of care I chose was a bit different – I seemed to have a lot fewer appointments than a lot of people. I definitely wanted that reassurance of the 12-week scan, but everything was perfectly fine.
I live in southwest US and they will not see you until 11 or 12 weeks, you get an ultrasound and your doctor or midwife appointment in one day. As well as bloodwork done and a Pap smear if you haven’t had one in a year. The only times that people are seen earlier is if there are known fertility issues. So no, where I live it seems like the right timing for your appointment.
