SOS it’s a girl

We just found out that we’re expecting a baby girl. We already have twin boys named [name_m]Connor[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] ([name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] are both family names) and we like that they both mean “dog” and wanted to do the same for our daughter. The only problem is that the only name we can find with that meaning is [name_f]Adara[/name_f] and we don’t like the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys have any suggestions?

If she was a boy we were thinking [name_m]Callum[/name_m] because even though it means dove it is a variant of [name_m]Cailean[/name_m] which means dog.

[name_u]Madigan[/name_u] means little dog, [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]/[name_f]Maddie[/name_f] for short
[name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u]: dog
[name_u]Collins[/name_u]: [name_m]Collin[/name_m] means dog, [name_u]Collins[/name_u] or [name_f]Collina[/name_f] is the female version
[name_f]Fauna[/name_f]: [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess of animals
[name_f]Tala[/name_f]: [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
[name_u]Channing[/name_u]/[name_m]Channon[/name_m]: young wolf
Ulva: she wolf
[name_u]Fiadh[/name_u]: wild (pronounced [name_u]Fee[/name_u]-uh)

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

Hmm maybe you could get Colleen, Colette or Lynn from Colin pp suggested.

Female variants of Cailean could be Callie, Carly/Carleigh, Catalina, Catherine, Cameron, Calpurnia & Calista

What if you widened your search to other names with an animal based meaning or names that mean friend? since a dog is man’s best friend.

Sharama and Tahmores mean dog, but Tusa is probably more in your wheelhouse.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_u]Ari[/name_u]? You could also use [name_f]Cerelia[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Ciri[/name_f]? [name_m]Sirius[/name_m] is a dog constellation and [name_f]Siria[/name_f] is the feminine form.

I like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_u]Madigan[/name_u], and I like the idea of a name that means friend (it feels subtler like [name_m]Callum[/name_m]). I really don’t like [name_f]Ciri[/name_f] or [name_f]Siria[/name_f], sorry!

I like [name_u]Madigan[/name_u] alot! It fits well with your boys names!

[name_u]Connelly[/name_u] (but too close to [name_m]Connor[/name_m], imo)
[name_f]Mai[/name_f] (Coyote)

What if the girl name means [name_f]Cat[/name_f]?
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitriona[/name_f]

I don’t believe there are many female names that mean “dog”, because historically dogs (especially female dogs) tended to be viewed negatively.

I would suggest Nesrine/Nesreen, an Arabic/Persian name for the flower which in English is known as “dog rose” (rosa canina).

Maybe [name_m]Madden[/name_m]?

I like [name_f]Mai[/name_f], maybe [name_f]Maia[/name_f] or [name_f]Maya[/name_f] because we aren’t Chinese (and I felt weird enough using the Irish names!)? I also like [name_m]Madden[/name_m] and maybe [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] instead of Nesrine (for the same reason as [name_f]Mai[/name_f])?

[name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] !!! [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], and [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] is so utterly adorable!
