In desperate need of suggestions, my husband and I only have one boy name on our list, [name_u]Eli[/name_u] .
We like names that sound familiar but that aren’t super common among American males. Ideally, we also want the name to be nickname-able BUT we want to avoid using common names as nn’s (ex. [name_m]Al[/name_m], [name_u]John[/name_u], etc.) . Any suggestions?
[name_f]My[/name_f] Husband’s List: [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_u]Eli[/name_u] [name_f]My[/name_f] List: [name_u]Eli[/name_u], [name_u]Callan[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_u]Renley[/name_u], a lot of -son & -ton ending names Names we like but can’t use: [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Grayson[/name_u], [name_u]Leo[/name_u], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], & [name_u]Blake[/name_u]
@Greyblue I adore Callahan. Issac nn Izzy would be cute too Thanks! @EagleEyes Great suggestions. I love Hayes as a MN! I really like Finn and Elias too and I’m slowly coming around to Callum/Calvin & Maxwell. Unfortunately, I can’t use Micah or Levi but I love the sound of those names. Thanks! @emarias22 I love Remy but I think I like it better for a little girl Declan is SO cool. Do you think I could use the nn Dex or is that too much of stretch? Thanks! @tori101 Calloway is dreamy and I’m obsessed with the nn Cal! Thanks!
Calvin - Cal, Vinnie, Vin are options, but not my favourites.
Wilfred - Wil, Willie, etc.; Fred or Freddie
Olivier (spelling?), like the actor (Lawrence Olivier) - Ollie (omg so cute!), A or Eh which is an interesting nickname unless you live in Canada, then eh is confusing.
Winston, Winslow, etc - Win, Winnie, Winslow gives you Lowe which depending on your accent can be quite lovely sounding.
Callum - Cal, Calm
Edwin - Ed/Eddie, or Win
Basil - Bas (prominent A sound), Baz (prominent S/Z sound)
Fredrick - Fred, Ed, Rick
Caillou - Kai/Cai, Pebbles
Aspen
Oakley - Oak or Ooak (funny)
Augustus- August, Auggie, Gus
Emmett - Em
Elwood - El or Wood
Hemlock - Locke
Kiefer - means cherished and pine tree, Kief
Corian - I like botanicals for names, this us just shortened Coriander, Cory, Andy, perhaps a variant of Ryan or Ry
Ilan
Valerian - like Corian, but Val instead or Cory
None of my suggestions are great, sorry. You could use a name from your ancestry (French, Gaelic, German, Spanish, etc.). I think that is a great way to add extra meaning and give a unique name often with interesting and uncommon nickname options.
I love your choices, especially [name_u]Eli[/name_u] and [name_u]Renley[/name_u]. Maybe you don’t have to keep looking, ha! You have great suggestions and [name_u]Callahan[/name_u] is wonderful. Maybe [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], or [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u]?
@rhodes2nowhere Fun suggestions! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband loves [name_u]Elijah[/name_u]! I love [name_u]Finley[/name_u] & [name_m]Casper[/name_m] but my husband only likes those names for pets Never thought about using the name [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] to get the nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Ooo [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] nn [name_f]Ro[/name_f] is adorable ! I’ll have to think about that one. Thanks! @Eaud [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] are precious! No, your suggestions were great! Thank you so much for your help @pquimby I really like [name_u]Ezra[/name_u], [name_u]Beckett[/name_u], & [name_u]Declan[/name_u]! Definitely considering [name_u]River[/name_u] as well.
