Sos 😂

I’m sure you’re tired of hearing me reiterate my spiel on here- and in the spirit of getting your unbiased opinions I don’t want to sway you with where we currently stand with these names. My husband’s opinion on names changes literally every time he hears them. Some of these are higher up at contenders and some of them are very questionable. I feel like all of them at this point fall into the “we aren’t sure how we feel about this” category. Some I love and he’s simmering on. Some he used to love but is iffy on now. Some he really likes and I feel like they’d just be settling for the sake of picking a name without really loving it. This is basically just what we’re left with that hasn’t been outright vetoed at this point.

So, any you particularly like or dislike to go with Warren and Clyde, or any additional suggestions- we just need help. :joy:

In no particular order:
Foster
Watson - Watty, Watts
Samson
Linus
Gilbert - Gilby, Gil, Gibs
Elmer - Elm
Elwood - Woods, Woody
Murphy
Lyle
Ambrose
Augustine/Gus
Hank
Grover
Noble
Winfield - win, Winnie, fields
Jasper
Tobias, Tobiah, Tobin
Dexter - Dex, Decky
“Fritz” Fitzroy or Fitzgerald ?

I also heard Harding nn Hardy this morning and kind of sort of liked that? But husband wasn’t big on it when I mentioned it to him so not sure that I should include that

I’m going to do a little “love, like, lose” but with explanations:

love:
[name_m]Samson[/name_m] → my OG favorite for y’all & I still love it!
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] → such a friendly, familiar choice that isn’t too popular & sounds great with your boys
[name_m]Hank[/name_m] → love the clunky old man feel of this name with your boys
[name_m]Grover[/name_m] → again, the vibes are perfect with your boys & I love the name [name_m]Grover[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m] → this is my little brother’s name, though he goes by [name_m]Toby[/name_m] most of the time! I absolutely love this underrated name & he sounds perfect with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]!
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] → another slightly unexpected but lovely vintage pick!

like: (no explanations for these because I love them, but I love the options above more)
[name_m]Foster[/name_m]
[name_m]Elwood[/name_m]
[name_m]Elmer[/name_m]
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]

lose:
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] → a lovely name, but just not up there with my faves with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] → another solid contender, but the repeated Li- with the Cly- throws me off
[name_m]Lyle[/name_m] → I absolutely adore this name but again the Cly- and the Ly- trips me up
[name_m]Noble[/name_m] → just doesn’t really go as well with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] as the other options
[name_m]Winfield[/name_m] → such a cool name but feels a little more dark academia, distinguished gentleman than the gentle, friendly, rugged feel of [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] (plus, don’t love the repeated initial but that might not bother you)

a few suggestions, if you're interested

[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] “Ray”
[name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_m]Grady[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] “Pip”
[name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] “Ozzy” (or just [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] would be cute too!)
[name_m]Mercer[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerry[/name_m]
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m] “Bear”
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m]
[name_m]Howie[/name_m]
[name_m]Gable[/name_m]
[name_m]Hodgins[/name_m]
[name_m]Dempsey[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]

I hope this helped a bit in your process of elimination!

I would definitely start by eliminating some options. Choosing from around 20 names sounds stressful haha. I’ll just share how I would trim down the list if it were mine.

These I’d lose:
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] and [name_m]Winfield[/name_m] so as not to repeat W initial
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_m]Lyle[/name_m] (quite similar to [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] for me)
[name_m]Foster[/name_m] (don’t like the foster child/foster system association even though the sound is appealing)
[name_m]Elmer[/name_m] and [name_m]Grover[/name_m] (glue and muppet associations, and they’re a bit frumpy, even though I do actually like [name_m]Grover[/name_m])
Harding/Hardy (personally don’t think it’s a good idea for a person/boy to have “hard” in their name. People can be immature, I just wouldn’t risk it).
Elwood/Woody (Elwood is nice, but I can’t get behind [name_m]Woody[/name_m] for the aforementioned reasons)

These are the ones from your list that I like best with your sibset/stylistically feels the best match to me, with a heart next to my favorites:

[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] :black_heart:
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Noble[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] :black_heart:
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m] :black_heart:

[name_m]The[/name_m] names I didn’t mention I am indifferent to/think they’re fine with sibset but don’t stand out for me.

I definitely go with [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], for a brother for [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the nn [name_m]Gib[/name_m].

Names I like with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]:

[name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], [name_m]Murphy[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], [name_m]Grover[/name_m]

Was [name_m]Winston[/name_m] ever a contender?

I’m not a fan of:

[name_m]Watson[/name_m] – way too close to [name_m]Warren[/name_m] as lovely as it is

[name_m]Hank[/name_m] – a bit rough and heavy for me

[name_m]Fitzroy[/name_m] / [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] – a bit heavy again for me

[name_m]Harding[/name_m] – would not want ‘hard’ if i were a boy :person_shrugging:

I like:

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] – sunny, handsome and cool

[name_m]Linus[/name_m] – sleek, charming and clunky cool

[name_m]Murphy[/name_m] – quirky, cool and charming

[name_m]Lyle[/name_m] – old-man but cool sounds

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] – handsome and friendly with a bit of grandeur

[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] – gentle, handsome and lovely

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] – sophisticated with a rugged nickname

Suggesting [name_f]Jessie[/name_f] or [name_m]Jesse[/name_m] “Jess”. A ‘J’ name looks really good with [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] and [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. Don’t know if those are siblings or middle name ideas but it goes with both while still giving that old cowboy feel that [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] are giving .

I would try to be more ruthless about the names either of you aren’t feeling. It may mean you have to cross off names you individually love but you’ll get closer to the names where you can find happy agreement. But I do understand it being hard, you can find positives in all the names!

[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] – This is a stand out from your list. I remember how keen you were for [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] while your husband wasn’t, and this has a really similar vibe and sound profile.

[name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Dexter[/name_m] – All very good options. I like how they complement your older sons (rather than compete) and all of them feel friendly and versatile for all sorts of personalities.

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] – I like the names themselves they do feel a bit more buttoned up next to your older sons. [name_m]Gus[/name_m] brings the laid-back vibes though and [name_m]Ames[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and Bo would do the same for [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m].

[name_m]Elmer[/name_m], [name_m]Grover[/name_m] – These feel way more old-fashioned and stylised compared to your older sons. It feels like a shift in your style.

[name_m]Foster[/name_m], [name_m]Elwood[/name_m], [name_m]Murphy[/name_m] – I don’t mind these options but in general I’m not as keen on the surname styles with your older sons. These are still approachable though and fit with current naming styles.

[name_m]Winfield[/name_m], [name_m]Noble[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzroy[/name_m] / [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m], [name_m]Harding[/name_m] – These would be fairly surprising to follow your older sons. They’re also firmly surnames by usage so I tend to expect there to be more to the story when using them as first names.

[name_m]Watson[/name_m], [name_m]Lyle[/name_m] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] – When I say them with your older sons they sound too similar for my liking so I’d cross these off. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] I’d say is borderline but I’m finding it cumbersome to say with [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] so I’d choose something else from your list over it.

Good luck!

I love [name_m]Murphy[/name_m] and [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] (not [name_m]Fritz[/name_m])

Here’s my top 3 with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]:

  1. [name_m]Grover[/name_m]

  2. [name_m]Foster[/name_m]

  3. [name_m]Dexter[/name_m]

These all give me the American 1890s-1910s vibe. Dependable, masculine, a bit quirky in the 2020s.

For you I love:
[name_m]Samson[/name_m] - great fit and I am definitely still sold on “Sammy Jammy”!
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] - love this! I tend to care a lot about distinctive initials/endings so this one might just top [name_m]Samson[/name_m] in that regard - it may not be as important to you though!
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m] - I really enjoy the surname-ey vibe of [name_m]Murphy[/name_m] with your boys, and “Murph” is a cool nickname!
[name_m]Hank[/name_m] - laid-back and retro, just like your boys’ names
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - [name_m]Warren[/name_m], [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] “Toby” would be fab! I like [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] for you too, but [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] fits slightly better in my opinion

I also like:
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - though it feels a little more modern/mainstream than your boys’ names
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - a lovely fit stylistically, though the repeat of the “I” sound with [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] could be something to consider to narrow things down
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - as mentioned, slightly grander in style than W & C but a good option nonetheless
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] - ditto the above
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m] - not personally a massive fan but the cohesion with your boys’ names is good
[name_m]Foster[/name_m] - ditto the above, although I feel like some of your other options are a better match!

In your position I would drop:
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] - as mentioned, too similar to [name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_m]Elmer[/name_m], [name_m]Elwood[/name_m], [name_m]Grover[/name_m] - slightly too clunky for me next to W & C
[name_m]Lyle[/name_m] - as mentioned, too similar to [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzroy[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m], [name_m]Winfield[/name_m], [name_m]Noble[/name_m] - too much of a difference in style for me, much prefer many of your other options cohesion-wise
[name_m]Harding[/name_m] - the “hard” part puts me off too, plus it feels like you have much more considered/established ideas that work better with W & C

[name_f]Love[/name_f] ~
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] (prefer [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] myself but [name_m]Gilby[/name_m] is sweet and [name_m]Gil[/name_m] is very cool for when he gets older)
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m]

[name_m]Like[/name_m] ~
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Elmer[/name_m]
[name_m]Elwood[/name_m]
Augustine/Gus (prefer just [name_m]August[/name_m])
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m]
[name_m]Grover[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m]

Lose ~
[name_m]Foster[/name_m] (can’t get over the ‘foster care’ association myself)
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] (too close to [name_m]Warren[/name_m])
[name_m]Lyle[/name_m] (too close to [name_m]Clyde[/name_m])
[name_m]Noble[/name_m]
[name_m]Winfield[/name_m] (actually love but would rule out repeat initials to help you narrow down)
“Fritz” [name_m]Fitzroy[/name_m] or [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] (Fritz is a no go for me - ‘on the fritz’ meaning ‘broken’, plus it’s a derogatory term for [name_m]German[/name_m] people. I also wouldn’t use a [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]- name unless it was a family surname or there was someone in the family tree with the second part, e.g. [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] if there was a grandpa [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] or something like that, because it literally means ‘son of’).

on husbands

Mine, too. He has some longstanding loves but the rest of our list is ever changing. Honestly? Don’t take his opinions toomuch into consideration if he flakes on them all the time. You’re doing the hard part here. [name_m]You[/name_m] should get final veto/decision imho

Naming is hard!

I’m going to put your list into categories which hopefully can narrow the list down.

[name_f]Love[/name_f]:
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] / [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m] /Tobin
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Elwood[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]

[name_m]Like[/name_m]:
[name_m]Foster[/name_m]
[name_m]Noble[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m]
[name_m]Grover[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m]
[name_m]Lyle[/name_m]

Lose:
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] ~ I like this name but not keen in your sibling set
[name_m]Winfield[/name_m] ~ similar thoughts as above
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzroy[/name_m]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps
