I have been friends with this girl since grade school and I only recently found out she spells her middle name Sousana (Soo-zah-na). I have never seen it spelled that way before and I’m not sure how I feel about it. At first I was reminded of the composer [name_m]John[/name_m] Sousa, but then she explained that her aunt swears up and down that this was how her grandmother spelled it though she thinks her aunt was misinformed. What are your thoughts on this name? I kind of like it because it’s different, but at the same time it just looks really misspelled and that kind of bothers me ![]()
I don’t like it, but it’s not horrible. It looks like some ethnic variation rather than a yooneek spelling to me.
At least she doesn’t spell it Seussana.
I agree with [name_f]Polina[/name_f].
Behind the Name has Sousanna (with 2 Ns) listed as the Greek spelling.
Babynamesworld and other sites have it listed as an actual name.
I feel it’s closer in resemblance to [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f].
But the one listed has 2 ns
Most baby name sites aren’t actually legit though…
At least it’s her middle name so she doesn’t have to continually spell it out for people?
but it is unusual.
Only for a Sousa fan perhaps.
I don’t prefer this spelling, but my first instinct was that it was an ethnic variation as well.
It makes me think of sous as in sous chef, which means under…So essentially I see ‘Under [name_f]Ana[/name_f]’ with this variation. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], though.
I was thinking it was an ethnic variation, as well. I had thought maybe it was an Arabic form of it? Greek does make sense, too. I agree not all websites are reliable, but I’ve generally found that BNW’s database is, for what it’s worth…
