I was just wondering if you all had any “southern” names that you’ve heard of, that can start off cute, but grow into a beautiful adult name?
My first daughter is named [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Claire[/name], and my husband is really loving Avaleen (or some form of that name) for our soon to be here second daughter.
What are your thoughts here, and suggestion as well! Thanks
Avaleen is interesting. What about Abeline, [name]Adeline[/name], or [name]Adelaide[/name]? Here are some southern names:
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Lily[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
Whenever someone says they want a Southern girl’s name, the first name that comes to mind is [name]Caroline[/name]. It’s beautiful, elegant, versatile, and well-loved in the South. I love the nickname [name]Callie[/name] too.
Avaleen is nice, but the -leen ending is very dated. [name]Do[/name] you think you could talk him into [name]Aveline[/name]? [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Mary[/name], and [name]Margaret[/name] are other ideas.
Southern sounding names are great!
[name]Do[/name] you call [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Ellie[/name]?
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] would be cute. Or [name]Avalyn[/name]. A compound name or one that sounds like it is double barrelled might be nice for you.
I once knew a [name]Leora[/name]-[name]Jean[/name] and I know a [name]Leah[/name]-[name]Jean[/name]. They both dropped the [name]Jean[/name] though.
I lived in the south for 16 years, and for some reason whenever people talk about “southern” names the first one that comes to my mind is [name]Aubrey[/name]. Knew lots of Aubreys in [name]Atlanta[/name] and hadn’t heard of it before then! Also, [name]Ansley[/name]. No idea if they’re actually Southern, whatever that means, but that’s what pops to my mind. Along with the obvious ones: [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Memphis[/name], etc.
[name]Born[/name] and raised (and currently living) in the south. You already have some good names on your list, however, in the south, especially for girls, double names rule. There are the obvious double names, like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Maribeth[/name], or [name]Rosemary[/name], etc. But lately I’ve noticed more unusual combos like [name]Mary[/name] [name]John[/name], [name]Mary[/name] [name]Charles[/name], and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Evans[/name]. All lovely and used to honor family members. I also know a [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Reed[/name]. A common practice is to use a maiden name in the second part of the name. Almost forgot, MaryHannah and MaryMac and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. My grandmother was a [name]Nellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and she went by the nn [name]Nell[/name] as an adult. Whenever I think of southern girl names, I always think double!! I hope this helps.
I agree that [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Adelaide[/name] would sound great together! I love [name]Adeline[/name] too as well as the more flamboyant girls girl suggestions [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name] (love this name!!!), [name]Georgiana[/name] and [name]Mirabelle[/name]. Might I also suggest [name]Clementine[/name]… It feels very southern to me and I think [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] would be adorable together!!!
[name]Georgiana[/name], Avaleen/Avaline, [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Marjorie[/name] are all sweet.
Also, [name]Coraline[/name], [name]Coralee[/name] seems very Southern to me.
[name]Adelaide[/name] makes me think Australia, not the South.
As for combos, I’ve met a [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Keith[/name], which I thought was fun. Prob not feminine enough to go with your [name]Eloise[/name], though.
