Spelling and nicknames for Margery

I really like [name_f]Margery[/name_f]. I’d like to spell it [name_f]Margaery[/name_f] like in Game of Thrones but apparently that’s not an official spelling, just in those books. Would that put you off? I asked elsewhere online and people really disliked the “ae”.

I definitely don’t like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], btw. Strongly dislike the spelling and the ‘spunky’ nickname [name_u]Jorie[/name_u].

Was thinking that [name_f]Mar[/name_f] could be a nickname. Would that be too unnatural? Open to any suggestions!

I don’t object to the “ae” at all…I think [name_f]Margaery[/name_f] is fine. There will be spelling issues (Autocorrect “fixed” [name_f]Margaery[/name_f] every time I type it), but I don’t find the spelling odd or way out there.

As far as nicknames, Marg(e) is the one I most associate w/[name_f]Margery[/name_f] or any spelling of the name…I don’t like Marg(e) at all. [name_f]Mar[/name_f] would be a lot better as a nickname [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I’ve never heard [name_u]Jorie[/name_u] before, but like it better than Marg(e).

Other possible nicknames might be [name_f]Mari[/name_f] or [name_f]MarGi[/name_f] (a colleague’s wife is [name_f]MarJi[/name_f]).

I like [name_f]Mari[/name_f]! I also kind of like [name_f]Margie[/name_f], but definitely not [name_f]Marge[/name_f]…

It wouldn’t put me off just because it’s a book-only spelling, it would only put me off because I’d fear it’d get misspelled all the time. I think [name_f]Margery[/name_f] is a little simpler.

[name_f]Mar[/name_f] works as a nickname. You could also go for [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_f]Geri[/name_f] or just “M.”

Strongly prefer [name_f]Margery[/name_f], it’s much easier to spell and pronounce. I’ve never watched Game of Thrones and I’d be inclined to pronounce [name_f]Margaery[/name_f] as mar-jay-ree.
I love the name [name_f]Margery[/name_f] though! It’s very sweet and underused. My favorite nickname is [name_f]Margie[/name_f] though [name_f]Mar[/name_f] definitely works! So does [name_f]Mari[/name_f]/[name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Merry[/name_f] and Ery/Errie/[name_f]Eri[/name_f]
