We have chosen [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] as our first choice but prefer different spellings. I prefer [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] as above, my partner prefers [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]… But i have also seen [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] as a possible variation, and was looking for peoples thoughts? Any help will be much appreciated.
I personally prefer the less frilly spelling of [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. For some reason it looks more sophisticated to me where the -belle ending seems more princessy and juvenile.
But to be honest, that’s my personal preference and regardless of how you choose to spell it, it’s a beautiful name.
My favourite is [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] for sure!
No offence, but [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] just looks odd to me, and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is a bit over the top and fussy.
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] streamlines the name and makes it more simple while still being feminine and pretty. It’s more versatile than [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], which I feel could only suit a very girly-girl. It’s also the traditional spelling - I tend to prefer the more classic versions.
A really lovely name by the way, was in the top 6 for my daughter, timeless and beautiful. Good luck!
I have a 4 year old (almost 5) little girl named [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. We went with this spelling because it looked more complete.
If you pronounce it “ona-bell”, go with [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Anabel[/name_f]. If you pronounce it “anna-bell”, go with [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
Also, do you plan on either calling her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f]? I would choose the spelling based on that. For example, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], with this spelling, and then nickname her [name_f]Belle[/name_f], with this spelling.
My favorite is [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f].
My least favorite is [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I depends what nicknames you want.
If you want [name_f]Belle[/name_f], go for [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f].
If you want [name_f]Anna[/name_f], go for [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I like the spelling [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] best. It looks more classic and will age better imo. I’m not a fan of all the ultra-feminine endings which seem popular at the moment, e.g. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] - I much prefer the simpler endings and find the longer ones too cutesy and frilly.
I don’t see anything wrong with calling her [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and using the nn [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. I wouldn’t spell it with just one n because I think that will just lead to confusion.
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my favorite spelling, it does the job, no need for the extra letters (which make it very frilly).
I would pronounce [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] as ‘ah-nah-bell’, not ‘ann-ah-bell’, as the two [name_f]Ana[/name_f]'s I know, pronounce their name as [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na.
I like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] best. It may not matter to everyone, but I was surprised to learn that [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is also the most historic version. I don’t think it seems incomplete, and I also prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] over [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. But it’s really a matter of personal preference. I prefer [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] to [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f], because the the latter feels less balanced and also has a more ambiguous pronunciation.
I think [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] will give you the most spelling issues. Personally I’d pronounce [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] as ah-nuh-bell instead of ann-uh-bell. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is the most popular spelling so that may give you less trouble. Personally I prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] as I think it looks less frilly and I like the [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] association. However, if you plan on calling her [name_f]Belle[/name_f] I would go with the [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] spelling as that will be most intuitive.
I prefer [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. It is the more common spelling. Therefore, people will still spell your daughter’s name as [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] even if you name her [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] and it would be very annoying for her to have to correct people all the time.
[name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] to me looks like [name_m]AH[/name_m] na bell, with the [name_m]Ah[/name_m] sounding like “father.”
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] has the sound of [name_f]Annie[/name_f], to me. If you are going for the [name_m]AH[/name_m] sound, definitely go with [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]. If you are going for the [name_f]Annie[/name_f] sound then I would go with [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I think it depends on how you choose to pronounce the name. I would pronounce any spelling with 1 n as ah-na-bell, and any spelling with 2 Ns as ann-a-bell.
I love this name. There’s so many ways to spell it:
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Anabel[/name_f]
When spelled with one “N” I pronounce it as “[name_f]Ona[/name_f]”. When spelled with two “Ns” I pronounce it as “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]”. It also depends on if at any point you’ll be using [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a nickname. If you’ll be using [name_f]Belle[/name_f] at all I think the double LLs are needed.
I think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] looks prettiest because it’s most simple. But I think [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is most versatile with nicknames, “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” and “[name_f]Belle[/name_f]” both can stand alone yet look great together. My vote is [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] if you’ll only use the nickname [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but if you think you’ll call her [name_f]Belle[/name_f] at all my vote is [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].
Anabelle is pronounced “ah-nuh-BELL-uh”. For this reason, I think you want to go with either Annabelle or Annabel. I like both spellings, but I think Annabel seems more preppy, and Annabelle more bohemian.
