Spelling options on the name Cara-leena

I really like this and I have seen it spelled [name]Carolina[/name], but to me I would say that name [name]Carolina[/name] as in the name of the N. and S. states. So what would be the best spelling to make the pronunciation of [name]Cara[/name]-leena clear? [name]Caraleena[/name] doesn’t look right to me. (or [name]Caroleena[/name]) Any suggestions?

I think the most intuitive spelling (for the pronunciation you are aiming for) would be [name]Carolena[/name]

Make them separate like you just put in the thread title? [name]Cara[/name] [name]Leena[/name] or [name]Cara[/name] [name]Lina[/name].

I don’t think there’s a great way around this problem. [name]Carolena[/name] to me is more likely prn Carolayna or prn Carolehna, although prn [name]Caroleena[/name] could make sense. I’ve seen some people spell it [name]Karolina[/name], with the idea that the [name]German[/name]/Scandinavian use of the K spelling reinforces the pronunciation used in those language, which is the one you like.

I say just go with [name]Carolina[/name] - it looks the most “correct” - for people who read her name first, she’ll have to explain it but can say something ‘like in Spanish’ or ‘like in [name]German[/name]’, when she introduces herself it’ll be easier because she’ll just say it, and then if people ask to spell it she can say, ‘like the states’.

Good luck!

[name]Karolina[/name] would do it for me as the languages where that’s the correct spelling would pronounce it “-leena”
I know the K spelling is kind of trendy, but in this case it would be correct.

[name]Carolina[/name] would be fine, you may have to correct some ppl but just about every name has some pron. questions

[name]Caroleena[/name]/[name]Carolena[/name] make my eyes hurt.

[name]Caroleina[/name], Carolayna???

[name]Carolina[/name] or [name]Karolina[/name]. That’s how the name is spelled. It’s a classic name in many languages, and I’d always pronounce [name]Carolina[/name] as a name as “car-o-lee-na;” really everything else looks illiterate to me.

I vote for [name]Karolina[/name]. I know a girl whose name is spelled like this and it seems to work well. [name]Every[/name] time I see [name]Carolina[/name] I want to pronounce it like the states.

It would depend on the surname for me. If I saw [name]Carolina[/name] Suarez or [name]Carolina[/name] Petrovitz then I’d assume it was “care-o-lee-na”. If I saw [name]Carolina[/name] [name]Smith[/name] I’d think “care-o-lie-na”. So if the surname isn’t “ethnic” then I’d go with [name]Karolina[/name]

Keep the regular spelling. All of the variations just look ridiculous and made up. She may have to correct people once or twice but after that it should be fine.

[name]Karolina[/name], [name]Karalina[/name], Karalena

I much prefer the [name]Carolina[/name] sp, even tho I agree you’ll have some prn problems. I always prn it your way bc of the designer [name]Carolina[/name] Herrera. She prn’s it your way. beautiful name!

I agree that [name]Caroleena[/name] totally takes away from this beautiful name. My first thought was perhaps spelling it Caralina might help out as people would not be so quick to pronounce it like the states, perhaps? Spelling it Caralina doesn’t mar the name for me at all.
PPs have a very good point with the [name]Karolina[/name] spelling as well; personally, I prefer the look of the ‘C’ in [name]Carolina[/name], but the ‘K’ would most likely eradicate a lot of potential pronunciation issues. I think a lot of it has to do with what part of the name you are willing to compromise on. Spelling it with a K, yourself and your girl having to deal with pronunciation issues if you spelled it [name]Carolina[/name], etc…
I understand your plight as I think [name]Carolina[/name] (pronounced how you’d like it) is a stunning name, yet the issue of others pronunciations is a bummer with no great solution of as of yet, [name]IMO[/name]!
Personally, I would use [name]Carolina[/name] and just correct everyone who says it differently than Care-oh-leen-ah.!!
Best,
