Spelling variations

Hey there!
I really love the name [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], but after many opinions, we have decided against it due to all the (typically negative) things people associate it with. So, we are looking at a similar name. Based off of [name_u]Avery[/name_u], we’re thinking of Avrie.
I really don’t like how [name_u]Avery[/name_u] looks… I just see “A very”
As well as [name_f]Avary[/name_f]/Avarie …“A vary” and “A varied…”

I like how Avirie and Avrie look, however.
She would be Avrie [name_u]Jo[/name_u] - nn [name_f]Avy[/name_f] or AJ.
[name_u]Jo[/name_u] is set, as it is a family tradition.

What do you all think?

I think spelling variations are best not attempted. It is a lifetime of her spelling her name out, having it misspelled and a lot of the time, people just writing the name as “[name_u]Avery[/name_u]” - i.e. the way you were trying to avoid in the first place.

If you like [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], maybe you’d like:
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Avril[/name_f]
[name_f]Avis[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Yvette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivria[/name_f]

But [name_u]Avery[/name_u] spelled any which way isn’t unique or science-y. I truly love the name [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. I think it’s far nicer than [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. I don’t like the name [name_u]Avery[/name_u] at all, actually! For many, many reasons!

Nevertheless, there is an acceptable variation with [name_m]Averey[/name_m]. But she is going to need to spell her name for everyone. You may see ‘a-very’ with [name_u]Avery[/name_u], but I see ‘ovary’ and ‘aviary’ with [name_f]Avary[/name_f].

I like the suggestion above of [name_f]Waverley[/name_f].

What about:

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Victory[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f])
[name_f]Verena[/name_f]
[name_f]Verina[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Avis[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] (I’m reaching but I like the name)

[name_f]Ivria[/name_f] is an interesting suggestion, but I don’t know if I’d use it.
And I do love earthy, science-y names, but I also like other names too, y’know
A lot of those earthy names wouldn’t exactly be a good choice for a kid. I like the name Carbon but would never name a kid that.
Anyway, I like the way Avrie looks. I have had too many people tell me [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] makes them think of poaching and as if my future child should be sought after. I thought of it as pure and natural, and something to cherish. Someone else told me it sounds like a stripper name. Ugh.
I’m not worried about my child having to spell out her name. It’s okay for names to be unique, as every individual is unique and shouldn’t have to feel like they need to fit in in every category of their lives.
I think unique names/spellings are great, and also a great way to judge someone’s character. If they care to know how to spell your name, then it means they care about the details, the little things, etc.

If you want to stick with [name_u]Avery[/name_u], what about spelling it [name_u]Avory[/name_u]? I think that spelling looks more mature than Avrie (maybe it’s just me, but I feel inclined to read the first part of this particular spelling like I would read the word ‘have’, with a short ‘A’.), and it’s close enough to [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] that you’re not completely forsaking the original name you liked. If all else fails, maybe you could consider using [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] as a middle.

If you’re still not sold, what about…

Avera ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-veer-uh)
Avarona/Avaron
[name_f]Ivana[/name_f]/[name_f]Evanna[/name_f]
Avelina
[name_m]Iver[/name_m]/[name_m]Ivor[/name_m] (Too masculine…?)
[name_f]Iva[/name_f]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_f]Evadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
Evren

I have the same troubles with [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. How about Iori instead. It’s a unisex Japanese name. It’s has all the same beats as Ivory without the troublesome nature of it.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] or [name_u]Avi[/name_u]?
I like those better than the spelling variations.
Possibly [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_f]Amity[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]

You could also go with Iori, it’s a unisex Japanese name meaning light. It’s easy to spell and say and has the beats of the name you liked.
