I already know this is not everyone’s cup of tea, however I need feedback on spelling. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you spell [name_u]Rory[/name_u] with a "y " or [name_f]Rorie[/name_f] with an “ie”? I feel partial to the [name_f]Rorie[/name_f] spelling because 1. It matches our other girls endings and 2. It feels like a more feminine way to spell a unisex name. My husband disagrees. He prefers [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. He thinks the other will be confusing and she will have to spell her nickname constantly. What are your thoughts?
I feel like Rorie looks much more feminine than the masculine Rory. Are you not feeling any love for Dottie, Dot, or Dodie? I’m not a personal fan of Dodie, but Dot and Dottie are adorable. And FYI, you have mentioned Dorothy so much, that my I’m starting to appreciate it more.
Same here. [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is what I’d choose with a blank slate, but since your other daughters have such sweet, feminine nicknames all ending in -ie, I’d mirror this and go with [name_f]Rorie[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] as a nn better but by the time she’s able to write her name/learning to write you could let her pick between [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_f]Rorie[/name_f], I think that seems most appropriate
I’d go with [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. Not only is this the assumed spelling of most people and it might prevent spelling issues, which aren’t a huge deal but can be annoying at times. It also makes the most sense with the -y ending of [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] for me.
Usually I prefer ‘rounder’ in which case I would chose [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. I do however feel partial to [name_f]Rorie[/name_f]. My rule is usually -y for a full name -ie for a nickname, so if her full name would be [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] then her nickname should be [name_f]Rorie[/name_f]
Because [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] ends in a -y, [name_u]Rory[/name_u] seems to fit better. I can see why you like [name_f]Rorie[/name_f], as it is more creative and feminine, but I think that [name_u]Rory[/name_u] would be a better choice.
