I was wondering what you all think of splicing names and sticking pieces that you like together?
For example…
My Grandmother’s name is [name_f]Leonicia[/name_f]. It’s a Spanish fem form of [name_m]Leo[/name_m]/[name_m]Leon[/name_m]. I just am not crazy about the [name_f]Nicia[/name_f] part.
I Also love the name Novi/Novah.
Is it weird to Splice them and stick them together? Behold Leonovi! Is it weird to do that?
My Husbands name is [name_m]William[/name_m]. I’m sorry I don’t like the name, but I do like [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], and [name_u]Billy[/name_u] or and [name_m]Willem[/name_m]. For a girl the variations come from the name [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. Its so pretty but so clunky to say! Can I do this? Behold [name_f]Willamina[/name_f]! or Willaminka! [name_f]Minka[/name_f] is a nick name I heard for a [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] once.
I also [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] but I don’t like the D sound and don’t like the [name_u]Del[/name_u] part. Can I do… Elilah? or If I’m really crazy I love Zyla (a friends baby name) and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] together? Zalilah? Am I being crazy?
We are working on [name_u]Baby[/name_u] number one and We love [name_u]Unique[/name_u] names. What’s you opinion please?
Willah (that’s [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] together), so it would be pronounced as [name_m]WILL[/name_m] from WILhemina and end with the same [name_m]AH[/name_m] sound in delil[name_m]AH[/name_m].
There are so many incredible names out there that I can’t fathom inventing one. [name_f]Non[/name_f]-invented names usually have a history, meaning and background that make it all the more interesting, and you would lose this if you spliced together a made-up name. I can relate to what you are saying, but I think you just have to keep searching for a name that fits your phonetic palate.
I see what you are saying, but I didn’t mention in too much detail that the names do have history. [name_f]Leonicia[/name_f] like I said is my Grandma’s name and Novi is an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] word from my father side of the family. so for me they have history. but maybe you are right. Thank you!
My grandmother’s name was Leontia if that helps? [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] could be another option for you. I agree with previous posters that an existing name with history and meaning that others can already spell and recognise will be easier to live with than starting from scratch, think how often you give your email address, now think about explaining a made up name every single time for eighty years…
