I saw these names for twin girls under the birth announcements in our local paper, and was struck by their originality. These names definitely stand out in a crowd -
[name]Amethyst[/name] Artesia; and
Brahminy Roseae

Hmm. They stand out, but I’m not sure about in a good way. As far as gem names go, [name]Amethyst[/name] isn’t a bad one, I suppose, but I think something like [name]Ruby[/name] or [name]Pearl[/name] would have worked better, and [name]Amethyst[/name] has always struck me as a bit stripperish. And I’m not sure where they got Brahminy from… All I can think of is “brahman” (which, I’m not even sure what it is, but I believe it has something to do with the Hindu religion?). I think [name]Amethyst[/name] and [name]Bryony[/name] would have been better suited for twins. Roseae–is that ro-ZAY? Artesia is okay.
Artesia actually reminds me of [name]Ambrosia[/name] which I actually love in a GPish way… I think [name]Bryony[/name] and [name]Ambrosia[/name] would have been stunning for twins, actually.
Their obviously not for me, but all the best to them and I hope every happiness for their two little girls. Hopefully [name]Amethyst[/name] and Brahminy suit them well throughout their lives.
I like [name]Amethyst[/name] and actually I love Brahminy even though it does seem made up.
I loved [name]Amethyst[/name] ([name]Ame[/name]) when I was about 15. So seems childish to me. Brahminy is interesting, wonder about the origins.
Prefer [name]Artemisia[/name] to Artesia. Roseae is a horticultural and medical l term I think, seems an odd.
Over all they seem really mismatched and out of sink as individual combos and as twins.
[name]Just[/name] looked them up, Artesia is towns in [name]California[/name] and New Mexico. Brahminy is a type of raptor. Roseae is a type of rose, but also a type of fossil fish.
So it’s a flower (fish), bird, town and gemstone. [name]Even[/name] weirder. Looks like they named their children off Wikipedia.
Its nms but definitely different.
[name]Amethyst[/name] is nice, and I have it on my list for middle names for future daughters.

Brahminy makes me think of Brahmins, the purest caste in Hinduism. And yes, ashthedreamer, Brahman is the name of the one God in Hinduism (Brahman/God is always capitalised for them). I doubt these people are Hindu, though; Hindu parents normally pick names recommended by their local priest as they are believed to be lucky. I bet that makes the task of naming their baby a lot easier!
I quite like Artesia, but I agree that [name]Bryony[/name] and [name]Ambrosia[/name] would have made a fabulous twinset.
Very different!
