Stanley vs. Stanton Lee

Which do you prefer? I’m having trouble deciding what one is more reasonable or realistic. The character’s last name is [name_m]Nguyen[/name_m] (Vietnamese surname, said like “[name_u]Win[/name_u],” or at least that’s how it has been as I’ve seen it).

I think [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] [name_m]Nguyen[/name_m] SOUNDS better but [name_m]Stanton[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Nguyen[/name_m] LOOKS better written on the page. Yeah, I was a big help, wasn’t I? What sort of qualities does your character possess? [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] seems like the more approachable name. He’s serious, studious, perhaps a bit geeky but a nice guy. [name_m]Stanton[/name_m] sounds a bit more upper class and somewhat pretentious. A name that someone in the higher social class would have OR someone who is poor but aspiring to reach the top. Those are the vibes the names give me.

Not only does [name_m]Stanton[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] sound upper class, it sounds sophisticated, maybe a little more peppy. It makes me think of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] from the t.v. show, Fringe.

That’s basically the exact problem that I’ve been trying to figure out. I feel the same way about sounds vs. looks. The story that I’m working on is a survival based tale (sort of post-apocalytic). I’ve been using Sessue Hawakawa as inspiration for [name_m]Stan[/name_m]'s personality. He’s a bit brooding and dominant, quick thinking, and more street smart than book smart. So, in essence, he’s neither of the images that you describe, which is why this has been difficult for me too.

(Also, he has a sister named [name_f]Gail[/name_f] if that helps)
