Starling?

A starling is a pretty little bird, in case you don’t know. I love everything about the name [name_f]Starling[/name_f] (star, and rhymes with darling, etc) but is it useable?

I was playing with [name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]…or as a mn (which is kind of a bummer, cuz it means it’s not really useable) [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Starling[/name_f], Miriel [name_f]Starling[/name_f]. I dunno, is it too far out?

Personally I am not keen. Calling a child star sets up very high expectations.

I think it is useable, though a bold choice. It’s very pretty. The only drawback is that it does immediately bring to mind [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs, but that’s not necessarily a deal breaker.

I like [name_f]Starling[/name_f], not sure if I would use it as a first, but I could definitely see it as a middle.

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] is darling! <3

I know a woman named Starlene, which is very similar. She is called Star sometimes.
I like Starling better since it is a bird. Starlene gets called Darlene all the time. It’s not as pretty.
There was a tv news anchor, where I am from, named Starr. I don’t think the name sets high expectations at all. It’s just another pretty word name.

I’m not a fan of “[name_f]Star[/name_f]” names. Some bird names work as first names (eg. [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Jay[/name_u]) but this one is better in the middle spot. It’s little too “twee” for a first in my opinion.

I think it’s a wonderful and bold mn choice.

I do think of [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of The Lambs, but that might be a generation thing. I do think it’s a bit too cutesy for everyday use. I’d expect a celebrity to use it, but beyond that, I’d make assumptions that the parents were ‘hippies’ or ‘hipsters’. I actually know a little boy named [name_f]Star[/name_f] and the announcement was met with very vocal judgments and distaste. I find that inappropriate, since once a child is named, time to suck it up and get used to it. But 2yrs later and people still laugh about it to the child’s face.

Yes, exactly.

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] might work on a child but I don’t think it works well on a grown woman.

I had a character named [name_f]Starling[/name_f]. Until I changed the plot of the story she was in, her middle name was [name_u]Robin[/name_u] (now it’s her sister’s name–her parents were ornithologists). So I do think it’s usable! Out of your suggestions, I like [name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] best. Some other suggestions…

[name_f]Beth[/name_f] [name_f]Starling[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Starling[/name_f]

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Leila[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: Oh, yeah, I see the concern with the name aging. But she might not mind–every child is different, and she may like the unique and youthful nature of her name. And she can go by her middle, or switch around when she’s old enough.

I prefer it in the middle, but could totally see it as a first. I love [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Starling[/name_f]! Beautiful!
