Starting from square one...

So DH and I were talking about names (once again), and he said that he didn’t really like [name]Zara[/name]. Ok…more accurately, he scrunched up his nose and didn’t say anything - which translates very clearly. I am at my wit’s end with coming up with names that I think we’ll both like. We’ve been through many of the “typical” nameberry names, and he doesn’t like any of them. Below are our two lists of favorites. Can you come up with any new ideas for me to suggest to him? Thank you!!!

Ones we agree on, but aren’t wild about:

what about chaya or shaya with jane as a middle name?

i think he likes irish names and you like unusual names. maybe an unusual irish name such as:

[name]Aine[/name] (pronunced [name]AnYA[/name], can also be spelled [name]Anya[/name])
[name]Niamh[/name] (Neeve, i’ve seen it spelled like this too)
[name]Siobhan[/name] ([name]ShaVON[/name], could spell it [name]Shavonne[/name])

hope this helps!

[name]Jane[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] just jumps out at me. You can’t go wrong with this combo.

Thank you for the suggestions so far! I will see what his take on them are.

For [name]Chaya[/name]/Shaya:
Are those pronounced [name]Chay[/name]-ah/[name]Shay[/name]-ah or Chai-ah/Shy-ah (like Chai tea or a shy person)? The only problem I could see running into is we have a niece called [name]Maya[/name] who is very close in age to our children, so the names might rhyme. If not, I’ll suggest these to him! Thank you!

For [name]Erin[/name], [name]Shae[/name], and [name]Shannon[/name]

[name]Fiona[/name] (wait…If you have a son named [name]Finley[/name], I think it’s too close)
[name]Olwyn[/name] (may be confused with [name]Owen[/name], though)

[name]Jane[/name]: I love the name [name]Jane[/name]!

[name]Clementine[/name]: I love [name]Clementine[/name]!

Ones we agree on, but aren’t wild about:

Plus the French names from above…

[name]Miriam[/name] (nn [name]Miri[/name])

Good luck!

What are your other kids’ names?

I think [name]Estella[/name] would be a good name for you all! Or, [name]Blair[/name], [name]Catriona[/name] (pr [name]Katrina[/name]), [name]Isla[/name], [name]Lorna[/name] (for [name]Lauren[/name]?), [name]Moira[/name], [name]Paisley[/name], or [name]Skye[/name]?

[name]Shanae[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Shana[/name] [name]Giselle[/name]
[name]Shara[/name] [name]Melody[/name]
[name]Shayla[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]*
[name]Sari[/name] [name]Liana[/name]
[name]Sarita[/name] [name]Joelle[/name]*
[name]Sarina[/name] [name]Colette[/name]
[name]Sarafina[/name] [name]Jane[/name]*
[name]Suri[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name]*

[name]Chante[/name] [name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Carissa[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name] [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Linden[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

I’ll suggest names that I think are a compromise between names from both of your lists.
Sorry for repeats.

[name]Saoirse[/name] - sare-sha
[name]Callista[/name] nn [name]Calla[/name] or [name]Callie[/name]
[name]Eugenia[/name] - nn [name]Ginny[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] - nn [name]Ginny[/name]/[name]Gigi[/name]/[name]Ginger[/name]

I’m going to make suggestions but I have to admit I didn’t look at all the posts yet, so I will probably repeat.

These are names that I thought of while looking at your lists:
[name]Colette[/name] - nn [name]Lettie[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name] - nn [name]Laney[/name]
[name]Keela[/name] (it means “so beautiful that only poets can describe her”)
[name]Larissa[/name] - nn [name]Rissa[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name] - nn [name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Melina[/name] - nn [name]Lina[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] - nn Lydi
[name]Matilda[/name] - nn [name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] - nn [name]Vivi[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] - nn Gwinny (like [name]Jenny[/name])

My thoughts exactly

Thank you for all the names (wow, jill - so many great ones!)! I’m going to pour over them and take the ideas to DH soon. I’ll let you know when we have a shortened list!

My thoughts exactly[/quote]

[name]Do[/name] you both think that [name]Jane[/name] Kick works? My only concern is that it is too short and may lack “personality”.

I totally forgot about your last name! (Oopsies…)

I think that longer names sound great with Kick. I love the perky sound of your last name.

Good luck!

I agree. Longer name with ln Kick. And I would stay away from the noun names.

chaya I have always pronounced SHYa but it could be pronounced Chai-A. I looked it up and Shaya is the male spelling. [name]Chaya[/name] is the female spelling in hebrew meaning alive and living, in sanskrit means lustre/ beauty. [name]Chaya[/name] nick name shy is super cute. [name]Jane[/name] kick does not sound good.

[name]Jane[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (doesnt sound as good as the reverse i think)
[name]Jane[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Jane[/name] [name]Vianne[/name]
[name]Vala[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Vianne[/name] (French thing going on here?)
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Siri[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Siri[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]

About [name]Chaya[/name]…

It’s a Hebrew name that’s pronounced with a sound resembling the noise you make when you clear your throat. It’s not a “sh” sound, a “ch” sound (as in “cheese”), or a hard K sound.

It’s a “clearing your throat” sound that I can’t spell phonetically.

If you follow this link, you can listen to someone saying “[name]Chaya[/name]” out loud:

Good luck!

That is not how I would have thought you pronounced that at all! Cool website.

Thank you for clarifying the pronunciation of [name]Chaya[/name]/Shaya! I think it’s a beautiful name, but since it sounds so close to [name]Maya[/name], I don’t think we will use it.

Thank you, too, for the new suggestions and combinations! After talking to DH, he’s really liking [name]Amelie[/name] more, and I have to admit, I like it far more than many of the other options!

What do you think of [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Zara[/name]? I may be able to get away with [name]Zara[/name] as a middle name!
