starting over -- looking for new ideas

So I think I’ve been bouncing between the same few names and not loving any of them. My kids names are: [name]Paul[/name], [name]Clare[/name], [name]Mark[/name], [name]Katharine[/name] (nn [name]Kat[/name]) and [name]James[/name]. Next boy will be [name]Andrew[/name]. I don’t feel that either of my favorite girls names - [name]Theresa[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] - flow well with our last name which is Tys0n. We almost used [name]Grace[/name] 7 years ago but now I feel that the name is everywhere. But maybe I should just use it and not worry about it.

sounds like you lean towards more traditional names

maybe

eliabeth
hannah
abbigail
[name]Samantha[/name]
[name]Amy[/name]

Oh, that’s a shame! I still think [name]Theresa[/name] ([name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name]) is lovely with your LN (and [name]Lucy[/name] is pretty, too). [name]Grace[/name] would be nice, but I think both of your other options are more special. I know [name]Katharine[/name] has a shorter nickname, but I still feel a multi-syllabic name (even if it isn’t long) would be nice. I don’t remember if you’ve said this before: have you ruled out some of the other names in your signature? [name]Anna[/name], [name]Leah[/name], or [name]Sarah[/name] (nn [name]Sally[/name]?) would be pretty additions to [name]Paul[/name], [name]Clare[/name], [name]Mark[/name], [name]James[/name], and [name]Katharine[/name]. Or I think these join your set fabulously:

[name]Rebecca[/name] ([name]Becca[/name], [name]Becky[/name], [name]Beck[/name])
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Ellen[/name] or [name]Helen[/name] ([name]Elle[/name]) - any would be gorgeous and you’d get a one syllable nn to boot!
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name] (could use [name]Anne[/name], [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Annie[/name] for short)
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] ([name]Annie[/name])
[name]Susan[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name] ([name]Annie[/name])
[name]Louisa[/name] ([name]Lulu[/name] or [name]Luce[/name] like in [name]Lucy[/name])
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name] (since you like [name]Anna[/name])
[name]Nina[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]

I haven’t exactly ruled out [name]Theresa[/name] – it’s the one name that makes me swoon. I just feel really uncertain about the alliteration sometimes. We haven’t ruled out [name]Anna[/name], [name]Leah[/name], or [name]Sarah[/name] either they just don’t seem quite perfect. [name]Rebecca[/name] is my sister. Dh doesn’t like [name]Eleanor[/name] but [name]Helen[/name] is sometimes on the list (and I think dh likes Ellen) with the nn [name]Nell[/name] but I’m not quite sure about it.

Thanks for your suggestions. I plan on sharing them all with dh.

Your other childrens’ names are pretty common, so I wouldn’t worry about [name]Grace[/name] being too popular. She goes perfect with the other names. Other ideas:

[name]Anne[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Patricia[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Susan[/name]

[name]How[/name] about [name]Annabel[/name]? (nn [name]Anna[/name])

Funny, [name]Grace[/name] was my first thought! I would also suggest [name]Caroline[/name]. Personally, I like [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Tyson[/name]. I dont think it clashes badly at all.

See this is why I’m glad I asked for opinions. I’ve had a soft spot for [name]Bethany[/name] for a while but I didn’t think she’d fit in with the rest of my kids. Seeing it suggested makes me think I’ll at least bring it up to dh.

I’m glad I found something you like. I think [name]Bethany[/name] fits because its a Biblical/Saints name like your other kids.

[name]Bethany[/name] would be pretty! (And I’m glad [name]Ellen[/name] might go over okay…I mean, I’m biased, haha.) Best of luck!

A lot of great suggestions here - I’d also suggest [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Jean[/name].
