My husband really likes [name]Rosalind[/name], but I very much dislike the rawz-lind pronounciation and I don’t see how we can avoid that. [name]Roz[/name] is not my favorite or my best (to quote [name]Lola[/name]). So it’s either middle-ed, or done-away-with.

His other preference in [name]Rachel[/name], and he is willing to put it in the middle.

first names: Hubby likes, in this order,

1. [name]Marigold[/name]
2. [name]Naomi[/name]
3. [name]Jubilee[/name]

we are both able to agree we love [name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name]/[name]Mai[/name]/[name]Mei[/name] as a nickname.

And, as if this weren’t all complicated enough…we need a Japanese middle name.

Chieko, Suzume, [name]Mei[/name], etc.

And it needs to go with [name]Cora[/name] [name]Dove[/name].

Since the only name I saw you mention that you [name]BOTH[/name] love is [name]May[/name], I think you should try to pick a first name that will easily lend to using that nickname…so how about:

Maybe [name]Maeve[/name]? You could use [name]Mae[/name] as a nickname, and I think it fits nicely with [name]Cora[/name]. I think [name]Maeve[/name] would also sound nice with either [name]Rachel[/name] or [name]Rosalind[/name] as a middle name. You could try [name]Alouette[/name] or [name]Wren[/name] as a middle name to continue the bird theme, but then you would have to do that with future children as well. In order to use [name]Mae[/name] as a nickname, you might also consider [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Maisie[/name] or [name]Mamie[/name]. You might also just use [name]May[/name] as a first name.

I second the suggestion of [name]Mabel[/name] as a fn with nn [name]Mae[/name]. I think [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] would make darling sisters.

Suzume means “sparrow” in Japanese so using that would covering the Japanese name and the baby name at once. Two birds with…well, you know. Hee.

Asked hubby: doesn’t like [name]Meave[/name], DOES like [name]Mabel[/name]. Loves [name]Marigold[/name].

This baby will be the 8th we’ll have named, but none of my kids’ names really go together, so I just want something to go with the closest sibling in age since they’ll be sharing a room and together at church a lot, etc.

I also forgot to mention…my husband’s fave name is [name]Rachel[/name]. He has graciously agreed to use it as a middle name, and if this is a girl he’ll have waited through 4 other girls to use [name]Rachel[/name] on his fifth daughter.

So, [name]Mabel[/name] Suzume [name]Rachel[/name]? Is the -el repetition too much?

I found out I have a friend trying VERY hard to both get pregnant and adopt right now–secondary infertility–and her daughter’s name is [name]Elspeth[/name]. She loves [name]Esme[/name]. So…I am considering it hers and not open for my use.

What do you think of [name]Ume[/name] or [name]Umeko[/name]? That’s got a [name]Mei[/name] in it.

I also think if you’re willing to give up the bird name - if you didn’t know already - [name]Naomi[/name] is a Japanese as well as a Hebrew name. [name]Rachel[/name] is a little plain next to [name]Cora[/name] [name]Dove[/name], but I think [name]Naomi[/name] can hold her own.

Since you have [name]Dove[/name] in your first child’s name and you like the [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] nickname, I would consider [name]Maple[/name]…it’s nature orientated and gives you the nickname. I am very biased though!

You know, when I tossed the [name]Mabel[/name] idea past my kids they actually said, “[name]Maple[/name]!” and then said, “But we’d have to bring her home from the hospital and see if she likes maple syrup first.”

The only issue with [name]Mabel[/name] OR [name]Maple[/name] I have–and my hubby does like [name]Mabel[/name]; in fact, he suggested it–is that my last name begins with a B and I wonder if that’s just too many plosives (P’s and B’s) in a row. Too much [name]Bubba[/name], you know what I mean?

Tsubame is both Japanese and a bird name, as are Suzume and Kamome. All of these could have the [name]Mei[/name] nickname.

Other Japanese bird names are Kiji and Tsuru…also [name]Kera[/name] and Nue. Any one of those could work behind [name]Rachel[/name] [name]May[/name].
