Starting the name list...

DH and I have decided that we’re ready to start the terrifying/wonderful journey into parenthood, and I’ve just started compiling a list of our favorite names. I just wanted to get some opinions on our choices. Neither of us has a definite naming style, and we’re pretty much all over the place. I tend to love names ending in -a/ah - the “uh”/“ah” - sound, and neither of us likes old-fashioned names in general. Anyway, opinions and suggestions would be very helpful! Fn + Mn or sibset combos as well.

Abhi (pn [name]AH[/name]-bee)
[name]Abbas[/name] / [name]Abba[/name] / [name]Aba[/name]
Mbwana (pn m-BWAH-na), more likely in the middle
Juma, more likely in the middle
[name]Corbin[/name] (nn [name]Coby[/name]?)
[name]Dash[/name] (poss [name]Dashiell[/name] or Dasher)
[name]Simon[/name] (nn [name]Sy[/name])
[name]Stanley[/name] (hate nn [name]Stan[/name] though)

We’re also considering using [name]John[/name] as a first name (DH’s father’s name) and pairing it with a more unusual middle name and having him go by the middle.

[name]Tallulah[/name] (nn [name]Tula[/name])
Rosewyn (in the middle)
[name]Wyn[/name] (middle)
Obax (pn OH-bah)

Thank you!

I’m probably a little more traditional than you are, but I really like some of your names. You’ve got a long list to work from which is nice!

[name]Griffin[/name] - love [name]Griffin[/name] and can nn [name]Finn[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Fynn[/name] - also love [name]Finn[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] - inexplicably the added l puts me off.
[name]Sebastian[/name] - really like [name]Sebastian[/name]. I think the nn [name]Baz[/name] jazzes it up
[name]Phoenix[/name] - ok - it takes the right kid to pull it off I think
[name]Harrison[/name] - I really like [name]Harrison[/name] but I don’t like it shortened to [name]Harry[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name] - nice and uncommon but still familiar
[name]Fletcher[/name] - I really like [name]Fletcher[/name]. [name]Fletch[/name] reminds me of the [name]Chevy[/name] [name]Chase[/name] movies but those were a long time ago now
Abhi (pn [name]AH[/name]-bee)
[name]Abbas[/name] / [name]Abba[/name] / [name]Aba[/name]
Mbwana (pn m-BWAH-na), more likely in the middle -
Juma, more likely in the middle
[name]Sky[/name] - seems like a girls name to me
[name]Coby[/name] - hard for me to picture a grown up [name]Coby[/name]
[name]Corbin[/name] (nn [name]Coby[/name]?) - like this better than just [name]Coby[/name]
[name]Dash[/name] (poss [name]Dashiell[/name] or Dasher) - love nn [name]Dash[/name] for [name]Dashiell[/name] but can’t see [name]Dash[/name] as given name
[name]Simon[/name] (nn [name]Sy[/name]) - I prefer [name]Silas[/name]
[name]Stanley[/name] (hate nn [name]Stan[/name] though)

If you go with [name]John[/name] as first name, I like [name]John[/name] [name]Fletcher[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Silas[/name]. Actually, those are probably my favorite three as first names too!

[name]Aziza[/name] - I like this, kind of playful and has a lot of the ah/uh sound you like!
[name]Lilah[/name] - lovely
[name]Neela[/name] - like this one too
Rosewyn (in the middle) - this is beautiful - why do you not consider it for the first name?
[name]Wyn[/name] (middle) - prefer [name]Wynn[/name] spelling - I don’t know why, it seems a little more finished maybe?
[name]Nina[/name] - I like [name]Nina[/name] a lot
Obax (pn OH-bah)

I like [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Nina[/name], Rosewyn and [name]Tallulah[/name] nn [name]Tula[/name]

Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions! Here are some of my thoughts on some of your thoughts (:D):

I feel myself being drawn to [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name], [name]Fletcher[/name], and [name]Neil[/name] from my original list, and I really like [name]Reed[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Cormac[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Pierce[/name], [name]Taite[/name], and [name]Forrester[/name] from your suggestions. My favorites at the moment (they change probably every day right now) are probably [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name], or [name]Sebastian[/name]. At first, I was thinking that [name]Calvin[/name] might bring about too many “[name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name]” references, but I think that the ingenious, mischievous [name]Calvin[/name] from that comic might be a fun character to share a name with, especially to a young boy.

For girls, I’m very picky and haven’t really established a style I like…I mostly just hear names and either like them or don’t like them. I love [name]Tallulah[/name] Rosewyn, [name]Wilhelmina[/name] Rosewyn, and [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] as combos (even though they are a bit long). I’m starting to warm up to [name]Reese[/name], possibly in the middle, and [name]Tessa[/name]. I think [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Rowan[/name], or [name]Tessa[/name] Rosewyn are very cute!

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] would be too close for sisters?

Thanks for all your help!

[name]Hi[/name]! From your favorites, I love [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] the most (I can see the appeal of [name]Phoenix[/name], but the others are more my style), and for what it’s worth, I personally don’t think of [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name] when I think of [name]Calvin[/name].

Because they have the same T beginning and a ending sound, I know I’d personally trip up saying them together, but that’s just me. (I can already hear myself accidentally calling them"Tallusa and Tessla.") Aside from their beginning and endings, they do sound very different, though!

Best wishes to you!

(I love your name!)
