Starting to fall for Isla, but does it sound weird with our last name?

I’ve really been struggling with a name for our second girl. Our first daughter’s name was so easy for me. My husband vetoed all my favorites this time around and our agreed list of names just isn’t cutting it for me.

I’ve actually always liked [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but just automatically rejected it because I thought it sounded too weird with our last name, but now I’m considering it. It fits with the style and simplicity I’m looking for without being too popular, but I’m usually big on flow so I’m concerned about it…

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]El[/name_f]- (3 syllables)

Too much?

Middle name would probably be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].

I think it’s fine. I’m imagining something like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Ellison[/name_u], which is definitely acceptable. Some people may say it is too L heavy, but is that really a concern if you love the name?

However, I like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] best for you :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s hard to say without knowing your surname (i.e., what the rhythm is, what sounds it has). Why do you think it sounds weird with your surname?

Vowel/L sound repeating. Mostly how it’s L heavy like the previous person said.

Oh. :frowning: If flow is that important to you, it might be better to go with your first impression instead of waiting for you to warm up to it (it will start to sound better, admittedly, when you get more used to it). It may just be me, but a name that flows flows right from the start.

If you like simple names, how about [name_f]Iva[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]?

I think it sounds like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] would be absolutely fine with your surname. It is a lovely name! The suggestions of [name_f]Iva[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are also great - maybe also [name_u]Isa[/name_u], [name_f]Ines[/name_f] or [name_f]Ida[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f]…go for it!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Iona[/name_f]?

I already suggested [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as it’s one of my favorites, but hubby said absolutely not. He’s considering [name_f]Isla[/name_f] now and everyone I’ve asked so far say it sounds fine with our last name. Thanks for everyone’s input!
