Starting with initials

My husband has GUTTED my top ten list. [name]Even[/name] names I swear he had said “they’re okay” in the past, he didn’t want to see given top ten status. Of the top 10 firsts probably half are gone, and same for the middles.

Going to do a reboot but first I thought I would pick your brains as I try to come up with new ideas.

Starting with some initials I really want to use, I would be ever so grateful if you wonderful and creative Berries would maybe tell me what you would use. Any name. Go nuts, indulge your favourites or guilty pleasures, whatever. Please just make up some combos you find palatable/pretty. I may use a combo, or at least get an idea for a direction to go in. These initials are generally because I want to honour a family member.

  1. R. - Any R. name you would use as a first name.
  2. R. - Any R. name you would use as a middle name. Can be the same or different than 1.
  3. I.L. - I have two possibilities in mind but long to see what other people come up with.
  4. T.B. - I can’t use B. as a first initial. But any B name is up for grabs in middle position. T is a hard first initial for me. Ideas please.
  5. H. - Are there classic and pretty H. names out there beyond [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name]? Or would you use one of those? Are they tired?

Bonus round - what is your favourite variation/international usage/whatever of [name]Anna[/name]? Any you want, any initial.

1.) [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Remy[/name], [name]Renata[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Ruth[/name]

2.) Pretty much any of the above.

3.) [name]Ida[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Io[/name] [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Iphigenia[/name] [name]Lily[/name], [name]Irene[/name] [name]Lilias[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Leocadia[/name] - could mix & match with some of these.

4.) [name]Tacita[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Tamar[/name] [name]Bettina[/name], [name]Tanya[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Thais[/name] [name]Bianca[/name], [name]Theodora[/name] [name]Bernice[/name] - ditto the above.

5.) [name]Helena[/name] is the only other one I can really think of that I’d consider “classic”, but I’d use [name]Hazel[/name].

Bonus round - My favorite is simply [name]Anne[/name].

Good luck!

1 - [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], or [name]Regina[/name]

    Bonus round answer: [name]Susanna[/name] ~ [name]Anneliese[/name] ~ [name]Julianna[/name]

Ooh, a challenge, how fun! I get to use my whole names list. :* (I’m going to go all out on this one, I hope you don’t mind!) I’m sorry you’re having names trouble with your DH, but it’ll be worth it in the end when you pick a name you both love!

1. Rain, Reese, Riley, Rory - Rain and Reese are my favorites, followed closely by Riley. (I love the double-barrel “Riley Anna” for some reason, too.) I also like Ramona, and then Rachel now, though I wouldn’t use them myself.
2. Any of the above, as well as Reagan*, Ren, Rin*, Rosabel*, Rosabella, Rosalinda, Rosamund*, Rosemarie*, Roxanne*, Ryanna* (rye-ANN-na)
*If it weren’t for one reason or another, I would use these as first names, too. & I like all of these R names as a fn, really.

My favorites - Taylor Brielle, Thursday Brianne and Theodosia Brigitta. I also love Tirzah (prn. TEER-za).

5. I personally LOVE Hazel and Hannah, but Hannah’s been pretty popular in the recent past and Hazel is catching on. Still, I think they’re plenty usable. My favorite “classic” H names - Hallie, Hana, Helene, Hesper, Haldana, and Helena prn. either hel-LEE-na or hel-LAY-na. Oh, and Hattie!! I’m pretty sure Hayley doesn’t count, but I don’t consider it too trendy, either. Out of these, my favorite is Helene. I also really love Hana, but I’d more likely use Helene in real life. I don’t have a Top 5 anymore, but it might be #2 or #3.

Bonus round - Annemarie (2 syllables) and Annika (ANN-ih-ka), yes please :*

ETA: From a PP, Iliana Loraine/Lorraine is very pretty. I forgot about lovely Iliana!

  1. [name]Roxana[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Ramona[/name]

[name]Hermione[/name] [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]

You all are good! Gave me a lot to think about. I end up really hungry for “outsider perspective” i.e. not my husband and I.

I really like both [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] & my husband is okay with [name]Hazel[/name] but forbade [name]Hannah[/name]. I was wondering how [name]Hazel[/name] would be received on nameberry.

esrever: I love [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rose[/name], and [name]Ruth[/name]. I’m blown away to see not only [name]Rosamund[/name] but [name]Iphigenia[/name] and [name]Tamar[/name] - I thought I was the only one who liked those. [name]Irene[/name] [name]Lilias[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Leocadia[/name] - these are all really great.

katushka: [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Regina[/name] & [name]Raven[/name] are all pretty cool. [name]Ignacia[/name] [name]Liv[/name] is bold and not something I [name]EVER[/name] would have thought of. [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is cute, I wish my husband liked [name]Tabitha[/name].

ninanoo: Thank you for reminding me of [name]Holly[/name]. Putting it on the list.

everwaiteing: [name]Theresa[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is a cute combo. I like that [name]Theresa[/name] is classic without being popular. I love [name]Susanna[/name]!

kittyn: my GOSH! Thank you! I’m not going to list out each of yours that sound cool or one half of a combo that sounds cool to me, but thank you for the list I can see I’m going to have my work cut out narrowing back down to a top ten list.

bluebonnie: [name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Holly[/name] and the [name]Rose[/name]-names too and [name]Thalia[/name] is a great one.

The love for [name]Helena[/name] is really standing out to me. I can’t say I would have ever thought of it, or expected so much love for it. It gives me something to think about. I do like [name]Hannah[/name] very much but if I can’t get my husband on board with it (and apparently he knew some terrible ones in highschool) its nice to have other classic options.

Thanks everyone!

Indianruby, I swear your post hadn’t been there when I posted, thank you. I really especially liked these.

[name]India[/name] is still new to me as a first name, though I have seen it on nameberry before. [name]Do[/name] you think it would be seen as strange if she were likely a very pale, light-eyed child?

I’m glad you liked some of mine! A lot of the ones I threw out there were from my own “husband vetoed” list - he hates most of my more elaborate, epic names like [name]Iphigenia[/name] and [name]Lavinia[/name], and refuses to believe [name]Tamar[/name] is a real name even though I’ve shown him, haha! So I feel your pain. Luckily for me, my style’s somewhat multi-faceted and he likes my other favorite category - short, simple vintage.

You said you wanted to see how [name]Hazel[/name] favored here, i have to say i love [name]Hazel[/name]. But im thinking it may get popular fairly quickly. Seems like everyone likes it.

As far as [name]India[/name] goes, I think it’ll work. I actually picture a blonde haired, blue eyed child named [name]India[/name]. Probably because I have considered it myself and I’m more likely to have fair kiddies

R names I love: [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]River[/name]
R names middle names: [name]Robyn[/name], [name]Rylee[/name], [name]Reyna[/name] & [name]Rose[/name]

T.B. initials: [name]Thalia[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Tilly[/name] [name]Bianca[/name], and [name]Tristen[/name] [name]Bryanna[/name]
H names beyond [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name]: [name]Heather[/name] and [name]Holly[/name]. Lastly favorite [name]Ann[/name] variations include [name]Liliana[/name], Oliviana, Liviana, [name]Ariana[/name], [name]Anabelle[/name]. Good [name]Luck[/name] !

  2. As above.
  3. [name]Ida[/name]/[name]Iris[/name]/[name]Ivy[/name]/[name]Isadora[/name]/[name]Ianthe[/name]/[name]Irene[/name]/[name]Isabeau[/name] [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Ivory[/name]/[name]Iona[/name]/[name]Isabeau[/name]/[name]Ianthe[/name]/[name]Isadora[/name] [name]London[/name], [name]Iona[/name]/[name]Idony[/name] [name]Lotus[/name], [name]Isolde[/name]/[name]Isadora[/name]/[name]Irene[/name]/ [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Idony[/name]/[name]Iris[/name]/[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Lucretia[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Lily[/name], [name]Iris[/name]/[name]Isabeau[/name]/[name]Idony[/name] [name]Lavender[/name], [name]Ida[/name]/[name]Iris[/name]/[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Ida[/name]/[name]Ivy[/name]/[name]Isadora[/name]/[name]Irene[/name]/[name]Isabeau[/name]/[name]Ivory[/name]/ [name]Lettice[/name], [name]Ivy[/name]/[name]Isadora[/name]/[name]Isabeau[/name]/[name]Iona[/name] [name]Lux[/name].

I’m not very good with TB combinations, but other B name ideas are [name]Bliss[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Bellatrix[/name], [name]Boheme[/name] and [name]Bonnie[/name],
  5. I don’t like [name]Hannah[/name], but I adore [name]Hazel[/name]. It’s in my top ten.
I’m not sure if these are classic, but some other H names are…
    [name]Hester[/name]/Hesper/[name]Hestia[/name]
    [name]Henrietta[/name]
    [name]Harriet[/name]
    [name]Hilda[/name]
    [name]Honor[/name]/[name]Honora[/name]/[name]Honoria[/name]
    [name]Hermione[/name]
    [name]Hera[/name]
    [name]Helena[/name]
    [name]Heloise[/name]
    [name]Hope[/name]
    [name]Helen[/name]
    [name]Hortensia[/name]
    Hadriana
    [name]Horatia[/name]

Also, my favourite variations of [name]Anna[/name] are [name]Anya[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Annie[/name] and ”ine.

Good luck!

I feel your pain with husbands vetoing so many favourites, even ones they’ve previously said they liked!

  1. [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rosetta[/name], [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Ramona[/name]
  2. All in 1 and [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Rue[/name]/[name]Roux[/name], [name]Romola[/name], [name]Rhoda[/name]
  3. [name]Iris[/name] [name]Leonora[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Ida[/name] [name]Leonie[/name], [name]Iona[/name] [name]Liv[/name]. [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] is my favourite.
  4. I only have one T name on my list: [name]Theodora[/name] nn [name]Thea[/name], so maybe [name]Theodora[/name] [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Theodora[/name] [name]Beth[/name]?
  5. I think [name]Henrietta[/name] is classic and pretty, and I like [name]Hazel[/name] a lot. [name]Hannah[/name] is cute, but quite 90s. Honor/Honora is nice too.

[name]Anna[/name] is probably my favourite [name]Anna[/name] variation, but I also like the similar [name]Anne[/name], [name]Anthea[/name], [name]Annis[/name] and [name]Annora[/name].

  1. I could never let go of the name [name]Rebecca[/name]. Maybe it was a girl I knew in primary school. I dunno. I am just very attached to it, though I don’t think I’ll ever use it. Also [name]Romola[/name]. [name]Romaine[/name]. Regine.

  2. As above

  3. [name]Iona[/name] [name]Louise[/name]; [name]Indira[/name] [name]Leyla[/name]; [name]Indigo[/name] [name]Lola[/name]

  4. [name]May[/name] I just point out that TB is short for Turberculosis… [name]Thalia[/name]; [name]Thomasina[/name]; [name]Thea[/name]; Tehana; [name]Tanita[/name]. [name]Bianca[/name]; [name]Bella[/name]; [name]Beatrix[/name]; [name]Brielle[/name].

  5. [name]Helena[/name]; [name]Harmon[/name]; [name]Hadley[/name]; [name]Hera[/name]; [name]Helene[/name].

OOH, bonus round…

[name]Anna[/name] variations: [name]Zhanna[/name] (Zh like a soft j sound); Shoshanna; [name]Annalisa[/name]; [name]Deanna[/name]; [name]Vanna[/name].

  1. [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name]
    2)Same as above
  2. [name]Iris[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Lila[/name], [name]Ida[/name] [name]Louise[/name]. I also kind of like [name]Isolde[/name], but I can’t think of a mn that pairs well at the moment.
  3. [name]Thea[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
  4. I love [name]Hazel[/name] and also like [name]Hannah[/name]. I don’t think they’re tired at all, although in my experience [name]Hannah[/name] is more common. [name]Hazel[/name] seems more fresh. I also love [name]Helena[/name].

I like [name]Anna[/name], [name]Anne[/name], and [name]Anneliese[/name].

This is absolutely true. But irl she will have a surname initial, M. I think most people will think of her as either TBM or TM. If I flip them… I think BM is much more playground fuel in it than TB, if you know what I mean.

The T. and B. - seperately - are to honour some dead relatives. I could mix and match a bit more or try some sort of smush thing (one of the Aunts was a [name]Bella[/name]…?) but if I’m making a list ten long I’d like to try to fit them in there some place.

I’ve definitely got more options thanks to this thread. I had only had a very few I could think of, for some reason. And my sister recommended some but they don’t play nicely TOGETHER - Yes, I love nature names, but Thistle Bramble? Sounds like a flower fairy. A spiky one.

  1. and 2. [name]Ruby[/name] - my favorite R name. I would use it as a first, but I think it could work well as a mn, too.
  2. [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Luciana[/name]
  3. [name]Thea[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
  4. [name]Halina[/name]. I like [name]Helen[/name] and its variations like [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Helene[/name]. I also like [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name] is nice, too. I do know a lot more Hannahs than Hazels, though.
