I’ve been in love with the name [name]Estella[/name] since Great Expectations. But our family name is rather long as well…
3 syllables, starts with an “s”. Think “Saatchi” with and extra syllable in the middle.
I’ve been chewing on this [name]Stella[/name]/[name]Estella[/name] question for weeks. [name]Love[/name] [name]Estella[/name], but isn’t it to long? (3 syllables f.n. + 3 syllables l.n.)
[name]Stella[/name] is great shorter alternative, but wouldn’t it be too much alliteration?
Would a harder sounding, short middle name (our options so far are [name]Nora[/name] or [name]Rita[/name]) make it better?
Please help!
What about [name]Estelle[/name]? Avoids having 2 names with 3 syllables and also avoids alliteration if your not sure about those 2 things.
Personally though I think [name]Estella[/name] would be fine with a 3 syllable surname, especially if you have a short middle name. What about a 1 syllable middlename like [name]Kate[/name]?
To be honest, in contrast to most people at the moment I’m not a fan of [name]Stella[/name]. I think its harsh and sounds like the name of a 50 year old woman not a baby, but that’s just me! I do love [name]Estelle[/name] though and I think [name]Estella[/name] is much better as it just softens it up a bit and gives the choices of the nicknames [name]Stella[/name] or [name]Estee[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
Thank you!
I am leaning towards [name]Estella[/name] too,
- it was my original fave
- that can always be shortened for nicknaming
[name]Estelle[/name] won’t work so well, 'cause the last name starts with a consonant (Saal…) and there’s a clash with the “l”'s.
Thanks again!
I vote for [name]Estella[/name]! I agree that a 3-1-3 name would be best.
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
I don’t find 3-?-3 too long, but quite ordinary.
I tend to find two A-ending names - oh, I don’t know, too boring? Too frilly? A isn’t the only female ending. I see why [name]Rose[/name], [name]Grace[/name] and (a little more last-decade) [name]Alice[/name] are overused as middles. Short names ending in a silent E do seem to be the most general-purpose.
[name]Estella[/name]. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a 3 syllable first with a 3 syllable last name at all!
[name]Stella[/name].
I would go with [name]Estella[/name]! [name]Love[/name].
I gave my daughter a 3 syllable 1st name, and our last name also has 3 syllables. I know a lot of people don’t like that “matchiness” of syllables, or think that’s too long, but I think longer names often sound more feminine. Plus, as you said, [name]Estella[/name] could have a shorter nickname (which my daughter does, too). If you like [name]Estella[/name] the most, I’d go for it! I do like [name]Stella[/name], too, and I actually like alliteration.
