I’ve been contemplating [name]Margaret[/name] a lot lately. We’re expecting #3 and our favorite name for a girl is [name]Josephine[/name]. However, [name]Margaret[/name] ([name]Peggy[/name]) is a meaningful family name, so I want to give it serious consideration.
I don’t absolutely adore [name]Margaret[/name] on its own, but I like it well enough. And, there are a couple nicknames I’m more than fond of, I just haven’t found one that I’m crazy about yet.
- [name]Greta[/name]: my favorite so far; it sounds kind of harsh though.
- [name]Pearl[/name]: love, but it’s not very intuitive, and many people won’t know the meaning, and thus won’t get it.
- [name]Meg[/name]: really like, but I feel like it’s a name that doesn’t suit every personality. Perhaps it’s one to grow into.
- [name]Maggie[/name]: sweet, but kind of country-hokey sounding to me.
- [name]Maisie[/name]: I want to like this, but I don’t.
- [name]Mae[/name]: again, sweet but too country.
- [name]Daisy[/name]: like a lot, but it’s not intuitive. I think I like [name]Pearl[/name] more.
- Magpie: this intrigues me, but it’s a personality thing again. Maybe if she’s vivacious and chatty? It seems like more of a pet name.
- [name]Margo[/name]: don’t really like
- [name]Molly[/name]: not intuitive enough and a sibling has dibs on it.
I know there are a lot more, but the ones I’ve seen I don’t care for.
Does anyone have some unique, intuitive [name]Margaret[/name] nickname? For example, I heard of a tomboy [name]Margaret[/name] who went by [name]Rhett[/name]/Rett. I really like that, but think she’d have to grow into it. But nicknames along those lines- not a stretch from [name]Margaret[/name] but something fresh and unexpected.
Thanks so much!
