Stephanie nn Effie or Effie alone?

Hi -

We’re trying to conceive baby #3 and I’ve really been considering Stephanie “Effie” for a girl. My name is Stephanie @nn3 and this baby would be Stephanie “Effie” Annette. My dad’s name is Steven and so is my husband’s! So it would really be a nod to all three of us. My mom, mother in law and myself all have Anne in our names, so Annette would be a nod to us. All the family members!

My question is…do I keep the full name Stephanie or use Effie as a stand alone name? Does Effie Annette work?

I think either works great!

That said, if it were me, I’d do [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] “Effie” to complete the honor name, and because I love the name [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. [name_f]Effie[/name_f] would work on her own though, and I do think [name_f]Effie[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f] works just as well as (if not better than) [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f].

Whichever you choose, it’s a lovely option.

I think I might prefer [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] “Effie” [name_f]Annette[/name_f] as I love the way [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annette[/name_f] flow together. It woild also give her more nn options in the future if that was something she wanted. Besides that, the name [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is darling and completely underrated. It’s gorgeous and has so much personality!

As said though, whichever option you pick is lovely.

I’d personally use [name_f]Effie[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f] because a)I prefer [name_f]Effie[/name_f] and b) I’m not big on direct honours, but if you love that it honours all three of you, I’d go with [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]

I would definitely do [name_f]Effie[/name_f] on its own. I’m not a fan of direct honors because I’d personally want to have my own name that’s completely mine, and I wouldn’t want my kid to have to share their name either. Furthermore, if you’re Steph@nie, and your husband is Stev€n and so is your dad, that’s a lot of people with similar names in one family. I’d worry that it would get very confusing. I’m not sure if you’re planning to have more children but I would also worry about them feeling left out (or feeling more special because they have a name completely their own).

I’d go with [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], just because I much prefer it to [name_f]Effie[/name_f] and it gives your DD more options.

Normally I’d vote for [name_f]Effie[/name_f] if that’s what you plan to call her, but I love the connections [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] has for your family so I’d go with [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]! If she goes by [name_f]Effie[/name_f] I don’t think it would be confusing having multiple Stephanies & a [name_m]Steven[/name_m]. I think it’s wonderful when names have family connections and often wish my name had a connection or story behind it.

I appreciate the feedback here! I have two sons, so this would be the last baby (and only girl if it happens to turn out that way). That said, they do have their “own” first names with honor middle names. Ack, so hard!

Fwiw I definitely think [name_f]Effie[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f] works!

I also want to clarify that I’d be more worried about the similar names from a legal standpoint. If you and your daughter would also share the same surname, and share it with your husband, and if the three of you have the same address, then I could see potential confusion with legal documents or mistaken identity or things being sent to the wrong person.

I think it works either way. I personally prefer [name_f]Effie[/name_f] just because I don’t love the name [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] in general. I think it’s dated and I don’t love the sounds. But if you do like the name, then go for it. But if you don’t actually love [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and just want to use it because of the honor, I don’t think you should feel pressure to use a name if you actually prefer [name_f]Effie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Effie[/name_f] works just fine as a full name, it’s in line with a lot of other nicknamey style names that are popular. And if you plan to only call her [name_f]Effie[/name_f] then I think you should just name her [name_f]Effie[/name_f].

[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]! I’ve always had a huge soft spot for [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
