Stephanie nn Star?

SO and I have fairly settled on the name [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] if we ever have a girl. But another name we both really like is [name_f]Star[/name_f]. I can’t see it as a middle or sibling to [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] as the St- makes it too repetitive/matchy for me. But do you think it could work as a nickname?

I know nicknames tend to be personal and we would simply call our child whatever felt natural, but I can’t decide how I feel about it as an option. So… thoughts?

I love [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] choice :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I think [name_f]Star[/name_f] is a stretch as a formal nickname, but it still works in my opinion! I know a lot of people who have nicknames connected to the opening sound/letter of their formal name and while it might seem odd on paper, in real life I’ve never questioned it. I’ve seen plenty of situations like [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] ‘Buzzy’ and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] ‘Cookie’ and they feel like natural nicknames because of the similar starting sounds.

i think Stephanie nn Star works!! it’s a very cute nickname

I think [name_f]Star[/name_f] would be a lovely nickname for [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]!

It’s a stretch but I think it can work!

I can more see [name_f]Starry[/name_f] but yeah [name_f]Star[/name_f] could work as a cute pet name.

As a stretch! I can see it as more of a pet name than an actual name she would use day-to-day (at least when she’s older), though. Maybe as a little kid, which i think would be adorable <3

I have a relative with this name and the nn [name_u]Steph[/name_u]. The name means crown. So I think it’s quite a big unlikely to stick stretch that will likely raise eye brows and cause questions. I think an option could be using a nickname with the meaning of [name_f]Star[/name_f] and then it could be an easier to see nickname. All I know of for “star” at the top of my head is [name_f]Esther[/name_f] but I’m sure there are others.

All due respect, but I don’t think it’s all that common to base nicknames solely on the meaning of the name. So that’s not really a concern for me at all.

i think stephanie “star” is absolutely lovely!

I never said it was but was just suggesting an idea that could make the nn seem like less of a stretch! Not a problem if it’s not a suggestion you’re interested in pursuing!

ETA: sorry my apologies I just noticed autocorrect seems to have got the best of my original response. I’ll explain my original intent better. meant to say where [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] means crown [name_f]Star[/name_f] doesn’t even seem to have the slightest connection to [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] so it is a very big stretch that will raise questions and eyebrows (basing this off of experiences of reading posts on here from people where they come back months later saying “no one understands their nickname- all I get are questions and eyebrows). So to make some sort of connection to [name_f]Star[/name_f] I would offer up the suggestion of finding a MIDDLE NAME that means star. But again just a suggestion no offense taken if you’re not a fan of it.

I think [name_f]Star[/name_f] can work for [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], and I love the idea!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::heart:

I can see [name_f]Starry[/name_f] as nickname for [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] much more than [name_f]Star[/name_f]. [name_f]Starry[/name_f] could be cuter nickname.

Ooh [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Star[/name_f] makes sense to me. [name_f]Star[/name_f] feels like it could be a nickname for most names but the St- of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] makes it work for me

go for it ! stephanie ‘star’ is very cute ! and stephanie is a good idea if you want to have a more familiar and formal name officially

I think [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Star[/name_f] is pretty adorable!

Yeah, I agree. Unless you have a word name, like maybe [name_u]Willow[/name_u] might get called Twig :stuck_out_tongue:

I love [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], and [name_f]Star[/name_f] is so sweet and absolutely works!!!
