Stephanie or Valerie

I think these names have a similar mood…Which one do you prefer more though?
Which one is more common?
Does Valerie/Valeria sound a bit Latin?

I prefer [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], though I like both names. [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is also more common among people I know.

I see, thanks.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]! It has a vibrant sound and strong meaning, and feels more vintage than [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and more due a revival.

[name_f]My[/name_f] wonderful grandma was a [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], it’s a great name

[name_f]Valeria[/name_f] does sound Spanish/Portuguese/Italian but it’s a beautiful name that feels more fresh and timeless than either of the above.

I like both, but Stephanie’s always been a favourite of mine! She’s so sweet and bouncy whilst still being strong. Bubblegum and flowery perfume and glittery eyeshadow and the excitement of a primary school disco

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is my preference. I know way more Stephanies than Valeries. I just like the sound of [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] better.

To me [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] have quite different vibes.

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is very 1940s-60s as a name to me, and now inseparable from the [name_f]Amy[/name_f] Winhouse/Mark [name_m]Ronson[/name_m] massive hit version of the song of the same name from 2007. It feels both Retro and [name_u]Indie[/name_u] at the same time. [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] does feel a little Romanesque, my first association is with [name_m]Valerian[/name_m] the plant, the emperor and the language from Game of Thrones.

[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] as a name feels more 1970s-90s. To me [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is the softer sweeter of the two and I love the meaning of crown.

It depends what you mean in terms of common…I would say right now in terms of children being born neither are that common, both are quite dated, but they are both common in different age groups (here in the UK) [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is fairly common with women in their 60s and 70s particularly in the [name_u]North[/name_u] of [name_u]England[/name_u] (i know quite a few), [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is fairly common with women in their 20s-40s.

Despite me feeling like they’re both dated, I think they could both make a comeback…Valerie because it’s now of the grandma generation and [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] because it’s of the ‘on trend’ 70s era which is coming back into fashion thanks to things like Stranger Things.

I agree with @katinka

I think both are lovely but [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is the shining star for me she’s lovely vibrant choice very fun and looks spunky. I think she has a Spanish/Portuguese/Italian vibe especially [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] but it’s not a negative thing at all.

I’m personally not a big fan of the nicknames for [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], so my vote goes to [name_f]Valerie[/name_f].

[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] feels more common and more dated. I’d use [name_f]Valerie[/name_f].

I personally prefer [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] or [name_f]Valeria[/name_f]. They’re both very pretty.

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]! [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] still feels a little dated to me (though I don’t think anyone should let that stop them if they love it). I think [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is one of those fits-in/stands-out sweet spot names nowadays given the revival of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f].
I’ve met a few Valerias and all were Latina (US) Americans, which makes sense since it’s a name that sounds equally beautiful in [name_f]English[/name_f] and Spanish. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] is another similar choice that I really like too!
