Which one is the preferred or correct spelling for [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]/Stirling. I have always seen very mixed comments about which is the right way. What do you think of it? I am also slightly leaning towards [name_m]Steen[/name_m] which gives me very similar vibes.
I am also struggling to come up with middle names to go with a combo.
This is just for fun I must say as I am not expecting but trying to switch my list up!
I’m not sure which is technically more correct, but I prefer [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]! I’ve known of one [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] but never anybody called [name_m]Stirling[/name_m].
I’d lean toward [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] as I think more people know this word (maybe the association with sterling silver, I’m not sure why I think this). I’d worry that people would think to spell the name as [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and your kid would spend their life correcting them with the [name_m]Stirling[/name_m] spelling. I often have to spell my first name and find it irritating but that might not be a deal breaker for you.
I feel that [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] looks more like a name - even though it is a word too, as in sterling silver. [name_m]Stirling[/name_m] feels very ‘verb-y’ to me - no idea if that makes sense. [name_m]Stirling[/name_m] [name_m]Moss[/name_m] did spell it that way though…
I prefer [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], and see the name as masculine. I also believe this is the “correct” version, as in [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] [name_u]Silver[/name_u]. I’ve never seen [name_m]Stirling[/name_m] and honestly it doesn’t work for me personally.
THe “Stir’ part isn’t appealingly to me, so Id go with [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]. I don’t also suggest [name_u]Steele[/name_u] as a nice compromise between [name_m]Steen[/name_m] [name_u]Andy[/name_u] STERLING
