So I’ve posted a couple of times and I thought we had decided on [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], but I can’t seem to let go of [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]! If only I was having two!
What/who do you picture when you hear each of these names?
Feeling very flustered as I’m due in under 3 weeks and I just can’t make a decision on which name we should use as I love them both
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] makes me think of Mr. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]’s sweet and beautiful younger sister (and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] in general). It’s elegant, fun, and a bit intellectual.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] sounds whimsical to me, like a fairy. I’m sure it’s the -ina ending, like Thumbelina. For some reason, I like this name best on a little girl but not as much on anyone older. I prefer the more grounded [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and its tomboyish nickname options.
They definitely would make a great sibling set though! What does your SO think?
It may depend on where you live but both names, especially [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], are quite long and are likely to eventually get shortened so maybe it would be helpful to decide which name you prefer as a shortened version? Maybe [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]? Both are lovely and if you are still undecided, take both to the hospital with you and hopefully she just looks like one or the other.
I also associate [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] with Mr [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]'s sister and I love it. I find it beautiful and I particularly adore the nn options it has.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is pretty but I prefer [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I know an [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and she is a fiery red head woman in her early 40s.
Like PPs, I associate [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] with [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] but also [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_u]Reed[/name_u] in [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] -it feels very literary to me, a little grand, but also very wearable, frilly but not in a kind of fussy way.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] reminds me of literature too - it’s distinct and interesting!
I think if I had to pick between them, I’d go for [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] - I just prefer the sounds, the way it looks and flows
I agree with pretty much everything @cactusgram mentioned. I can imagine [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] on an adult, and it is a very pretty name, but I like the literary connection with [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]. I only like it as [name_m]George[/name_m]-ee-[name_m]AH[/name_m]-nuh though, anything else I would personally go for [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] sounds sophisticated and strong to me! I could imagine [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] traveling the world and working in a big city! [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] sounds old fashioned - like others have said about pride and prejudice:) I love [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], but also love nickname [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]! [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] sounds like fun friendly person!
I love [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]! It’s beautiful, charming, classy and has cute nicknames.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is pretty as well, but I’d personally avoid it because I think she would get called [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Ava[/name_f] are all very popular names nowadays.
Both of these names are gorgeous, but my pick for you would be [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]. It’s more vintage, like many of the names in your signature, and is long, elegant, and classic, with a twist. [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] makes me think of a strong, intelligent, spunky girl with drive and passion. [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] makes me think of someone equally spunky, but especially someone artistic and bold. I also think [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] sounds nice as a full name, and that the names flow together well. One name jumped out at me: [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. Struck me as a gorgeous balance of the best of both!
I have adored [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] for years. It’s not exactly my style anymore and there was something about her that made it so she was never at the very top of my list. It’s a gorgeous name but I’m actually preferring [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] right now. While it’s not something I’d personally use, I find it elegant with a bit of vintage charm.
Both are lovely, however. So whatever you’ll decide she will be a very lucky girl - good luck!
I absolutely love the name [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] - it was a top choice for me for a long time!!
It also feels more unique than [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]. I know [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is not a common name, but it feels close to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], which is beautiful but VERY popular right now.
My husband has a slight preference for [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], but still really loves them both and says I can choose as I’ve had such an awful pregnancy.
I love the literary reference to them both, although a lot of people don’t recognise [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] as an old literary name where I’m from (UK) and question where it’s from/do you not mean [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]?
We have a son called [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] if that makes a difference.
With my accent (English RP) [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] sounds like [name_u]Alex[/name_u]-zahn-der so would [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] be too rhymey ([name_m]George[/name_m]-ee-ah-na)?
Alexanders name isn’t shortened and I don’t think we would shorten [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] (possibly to [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Lina[/name_f] if we did though) but would shorten [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] to [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]. I adore [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] which I think is why I struggle to commit fully to [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].
I won’t use them together as if we ever have another girl we would use the remaining name as I think they sound amazing as sisters.
Surname is [name_u]Bell[/name_u] and middle will most likely be [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
