[name]Hi[/name] everyone. I’m so thankful for all the GREAT advice I’ve had from other nameberries … just a few weeks until we have our second daughter and we’re still searching for the perfect name. Seems more I think about it more confused I get!
We have our first name [name]Tess[/name] (our oldest daughter is [name]Orly[/name]) but stuck on a middle name …
I thought [name]Tess[/name] [name]Mairi[/name] ([name]Mairi[/name] being the Scottish version of [name]Mary[/name] and I’m Scottish) to honor a friend of ours called [name]Mary[/name] … but I feel the middle name needs to be longer.
Now thinking we should try something different altogether as a middle name for [name]Tess[/name]. Any thoughts on [name]Tess[/name] [name]Marianna[/name]?
Could really use some inspiring suggestions and if you have Celtic (Irish/Welsh or Scottish)three syllable middle names to share then that would be WONDERFUL!!
I like [name]Tess[/name] [name]Mairi[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] [name]Marianna[/name]!
I had no idea [name]Cordelia[/name] was Celtic, but see it is. It means jewel of the sea (on one website, at least), which to me evokes [name]Mary[/name].
Here are some more, with the websites where I found them below.
Good luck!
[name]Tess[/name] Morgandy (Celtic: little one from the edge of the sea – also reminiscent of [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Vanora[/name] (Celtic: variant of [name]Guinevere[/name], white wave, also sort of sea-to-[name]Mary[/name] connection)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name] (Celtic/Welsh: see above)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] (Scottish: white shoulders)
[name]Tess[/name] Maelisa (Irish: supposedly male, meaning servant of [name]Jesus[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] Monina (Irish: a saint’s name, her name was based on her first word)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Monica[/name] (Irish: used as Anglicization of Moncha, an Irish mythological name)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Muriel[/name] (Irish: sea-white, sea-bright, back to [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Mariel[/name] (may have a different origin than [name]Muriel[/name], but I like it)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Riona[/name] (Irish: queenly, also ties to [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] Adaryn (Welsh: bird)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Briallen[/name] (Welsh: [name]Rose[/name], which sometimes refers to the religious [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] (Welsh: originally male, Great lord, sounds like [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] Paderau (Welsh: out there, but refers to a rosary, if this is a Catholic [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Bethia[/name] (Scottish: Offspring of life)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Briana[/name] (Scottish: Strength, goddess name)
[name]Tess[/name] Kentigerna (Scottish: Kind ruler – An out there but intriguing saint’s name)
[name]Tess[/name] Dolina (Scottish: World ruler)
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Fenella[/name] (Scottish: White shoulders)
[name]Tess[/name] Gormelia (Scottish: deep blue eyes, kind of harsh – maybe [name]Amelia[/name] but connect to this?)
I really like [name]Meredith[/name] (it’s my twin’s name!) b/c it fits what you were looking for and it sounds like there’s a [name]Mary[/name] in there. I like the idea of honoring your friend. [name]Marisol[/name] is a name I have been drawn to lately. Not Celtic, but very pretty. [name]Marielle[/name] is also lovely.
[name]Tess[/name] was in our top 3 girls’ list until we found out we’re having twin boys…so I’ve given a fair amount of consideration to this.
My favorites were:
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] (or [name]Tess[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name])
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Ione[/name] (I love [name]Ione[/name] but no one else in my family does!)
*I think for the best flow, a mn that begins w/ a vowel works well w/ the double ss ending of [name]Tess[/name]…
[name]How[/name] about [name]Tess[/name] [name]Mairead[/name]? [name]Mairead[/name] is Irish for “pearl”. You could also go with [name]Tess[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], which also means “pearl”.
[name]Meredith[/name] seems to be what you’re looking for and it goes great with [name]Tess[/name].
[name]Tess[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] is fabulous! though, I am slightly biased as I named my dd [name]Tess[/name] [name]McKayla[/name]
Many, many thanks to everyone for posting – much appreciated. I love the name [name]Marisol[/name] too (it’s beautiful!) but wonder if, when combined with [name]Tess[/name], there may be too many ‘s’ sounds there – [name]Tess[/name] [name]Marisol[/name] ?
A Celtic middle name would be good but it’s definitely not a must … I think I’ll just know when I hear the right middle name that it will just ‘speak’ to me somehow!
I love the name [name]Tess[/name]! That was going to be our girl name, but we’re having a boy (and I have NO IDEA what to name him) [name]Tess[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] was my number one choice but I also liked [name]Tess[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
